Stillwater Senior Activity Center Closed for Labor Day



        City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed on Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day. Regular activities for persons, 50 and over will resume on Tuesday. Many activities are offered, such as; an exercise class, line dancing, a Zumba exercise/dance class, art class, pool playing, card games, bingo, and an evening music session every Thursday night. Hours for participation at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
        Monday, Sept. 5 – The Center is closed for Labor Day.
        Tuesday, Sept. 6 – If you are looking for a faster paced exercise class, you should try the “Zumba with Angie” class. It is a quicker moving dance/exercise class done to Latin American music that makes you want to move. It is offered at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to join the fun competition. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out, for all the puzzlers.
        Wednesday, Sept. 7 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class starts after the doors open at 9:30 a m. This is a good class to work on limbering and stretching exercises. Also, women pool players arrive ready to play some more 8-ball pool games. After the exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep time with the swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of Canasta, and other card games are played.
         Thursday, Sept. 8 – Happy Grandparent’s Day, remember your grandparents today. The Zumba class is an extra workout that will probably get you sweating to the jazzy tunes. The class starts at 10:30 a.m. You must wear good sturdy shoes. Canasta and bridge players start dealing out their cards at 1:00 p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.
         Friday, Sept. 9 – Friday morning activities include; the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, or a painting class. Bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the class.  At 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready for some high stepping and sliding. Afternoon card games will begin around 1:00 p.m. A puzzle is always out on the table waiting for a piece to be found.
         Last weeks reported winners for social bridge were:  Connie Mennem, 1st; and Lynn Fent, 2nd.  Duplicate bridge winners were:  Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Carl Provence and Sandy Boepple. The second day of duplicate bridge, the winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Sandy and John Boepple, Camillle Johnston and Sally Simmons all tied for 2nd.
