A fun week at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will host flu shots provided by Mays Home Care on Tuesday, October 2 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. There is no charge with your Medicare Part B card. Please bring your Medicare card with you. There will be a $25 charge for all others without Medicare. A sign-up sheet is available at the Center. Call or come by to sign up. This week at the Center a coed pool tournament will be held on Friday, September 28 at 1:00 p.m. Seniors, 50 and older are welcome to join the Center. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join.

        Monday, Sept. 24 – The doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the women pool players come in and get the tables uncovered and their pool sticks warmed up for some fun competition. The oil/acrylic painters get together at this time, too. You will need to bring your own supplies, but it is a good time to socialize and share your ideas with each other. Afternoon activities start around 1:00 p.m. which include: bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

       Tuesday, Sept. 25 – Come try the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class toning workout every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Texas Hold’em, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

        Wednesday, Sept. 26 –Women’s pool group meets up again at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment which includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine are available, also. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The movie, “Larry Crowne”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Sept. 27 –Tone up with the free Sit’n Be Fit class which meets at 9:30 a.m. Afterwards, Wii Fit is available to use. This is an interactive game system that challenges and can help improve your balance. At 1:00 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

         Friday, Sept. 28 – Friday morning activities include women’s pool playing time and a painting class that begin at 9:30 a.m. Come check it out! Exercise equipment, Wii games, and a ping pong table are available for use, too. Afternoon games include: canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, dominoes, and a puzzle to work. Coed pool tournament starts at 1:00 p.m. Come join the fun competition.

        Last weeks winners of bridge were: Treca Baer, 1st; and Barbara Geiser, 2nd. Other bridge winners were: Lynn Fent, 1st and Ina Lee Abels, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry; 1st; and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, 2nd; Texas Hold’em winners of the week were: Jean Hatcher and Betty Maney.

Relax at the Senior Center this week

       The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will offer a relaxing neck/shoulder massage on September 18 at 2:30 p.m.; on a first come first served basis. These will be provided by Paul Hirsch, a licensed massage therapist. Seniors, 50 and older are welcome to join the Center. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. You will need to bring your own supplies, but it is a good time to socialize and share your ideas with each other.         Last weeks winners of bridge were: Orlean Hunter, 1st; and Penny Sizemore, 2nd. Other bridge winners were: Jean Herndon, 1st and Lew Taylor, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, 1st; and Murna Raff, Betty Lowrey, Penny Sizemore, Lucy  Robinson, Lew Taylor, and Ina Lee Abels; all had a three way tie for 2nd . Texas Hold’em winners of the week were: Betty Shields and Roy Parcell. In the pool news; Larry Leonard won a men’s 8-ball pool tournament, Jack Ventris won the 9-ball tournament and in the tournament of the Stillwater Senior Center pool players vs. Ponca City Senior Center, Stillwater reluctantly gave up the traveling trophy to Ponca City with a score of Ponca City – 22 and Stillwater – 14.

September Birthday Luncheon this week!

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will provide a busy week for seniors, 50 and older. Special events coming up will be; blood pressure checks on Tuesday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. to around 3:00 p.m. and September birthdays will be celebrated with a pot-luck luncheon on Friday, September 14 at 12:00 noon. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and enjoy the good food and fellowship. Center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff; 1st; and Betty Lowrey and Murna Raff were 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners of the week were: Shirley Crockett and Betty Shields. Also, a Texas Hold’em winner’s game was held and the champion of it was Betty Maney.
