Defensive Driving Class Rescheduled at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will offer a defensive driving class on August 5. The class previously scheduled in July had to be cancelled. This class will be provided by Meridian Technology Center on Wednesday, August 5 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with an hour lunch break. You could qualify for a discount on your vehicle insurance by taking the class. Check with your insurance agent and sign up today, or call for more information. Class is limited. The Center is open for participants, 50 years old and older. Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday evening, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. is time for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

        The Walk in the Park event for senior walkers is ongoing in Couch Park. Seniors can sign up and log in each time at the Center. Walk the trail ten times and earn a t-shirt and better health.

        Monday, July 27 – Sit ‘n Be Fit, women’s 8-ball pool, and a painting/crafting class all start at 9:30 a.m. The 45-minute exercise class incorporates a good stretching routine using stretchy rubber bands, and rubber or sponge balls. The women pool players have a good competition while playing several rounds of 8-ball. Artists exchange their ideas and show off their creativity on canvases during their class. Also, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. you can come step in time to country tunes while line dancing. In the afternoon, games of bridge and canasta are played along with pool or snooker.

        Tuesday, July 28 – Zumba with Angie takes place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  This is a free, fast paced class that is done to some high tempo music. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

        Wednesday, July 29 – Activities begin again at 9:30 a.m. Sit ‘n Be Fit exercises are done in a combination of sitting and standing, but a chair is always there for support. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m.  Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played.

         Thursday, July 30 – You can work up a good sweat moving to the jazzy tunes in the Zumba class at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon games start at 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, July 31 – Stay cool while exercising, playing pool, or painting. All these activities start at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot around the floor to some lively tunes. Afternoon games of canasta and duplicate bridge are played. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition!


         Last weeks reported winners were: for social bridge; Connie Mennem was first and Beverly Dale was second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, who came in first; and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller were second. A weekly pool tournament was played and the champion was Wayne Vinson.

Fun Activities Offered at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers a variety of activities that are fun and help keep participants moving and their minds active. The Center is open for participants, 50 years old and older. Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday evening, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. is time for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

       Notice: The defensive driving class planned for this month on Wednesday, July 29 has to be cancelled. The class will be rescheduled with a new date for the month of August. You can call the Senior Center for more information.

Duplicate bridge winning partners were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, who came in first; and Sandy Boepple and Jerry Koelsch were second. The second day of duplicate bridge, winners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first and John and Sandy Boepple, second. A weekly pool tournament was played and the champion was Vic Berryman.

Christmas In July Happening at the Stillwater Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate participant’s July birthdays with a “Christmas in July”, themed luncheon on Friday, July 10 at 12:00 noon. Santa may even make an appearance. Turkey and dressing will be the main entrĂ©e. Attendees are asked to bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person.
