May Birthdays Celebrated at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate their participant’s May birthdays with a pot-luck luncheon on Friday, May 8 at 12:00 noon. The entrée will be sloppy joes. You can bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person. Join the fellowship, make some new friends, and check out the activities offered. Many free activities are offered for everyone age 50 and over, such as: exercise class, painting and crafting class, line dancing, Zumba exercise, bridge, canasta, bingo, guitar lessons, once a month movie time, pool playing for men and women including coed pool tournaments, and a music night. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.          A special note, starting May 6, the weekly movie time will change to a once a month showing. A movie will be shown on the first Wednesday of each month. Join us for a good movie. You cannot beat the price of a movie and popcorn. Free!   

        Monday, May 4 – A free exercise class, women’s pool playing, and a painting/crafting class all begin at 9:30 a.m. The Sit n’ Be Fit exercise class is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. This class utilizes stretching bands, bouncing balls and sponge balls as part of the stretching and limbering up routine. Check it out! Women’s pool playing is a good socialization time and competitive fun! The painting/crafting class members test their creative side with their art work. Bring your supplies and give your skills a test. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get some more exercise by joining the line dancing class and do some boot scootin’ to country music. Afternoon activities include: canasta, bridge, and puzzle solving. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition!

        Tuesday, May 5 –A Wii player is available to use at 9:30 a.m. The game that is the most popular on this gaming system, is bowling. If you like to bowl you should enjoy this game. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a really good workout in the free Zumba class. This class is done to some high tempo music and is bound to get your heart rate up. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

         Wednesday, May 6 – Time to exercise again. Join the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. The monthly afternoon movie will show at 2:00 p.m. A movie will only be shown on the first Wednesday of each month. This month’s movie is a true drama based on a successful painter in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, Margaret Keane. She had to use legal means against her husband, who took credit for her artwork. The film is titled, “Big Eyes”. It stars Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz.

         Thursday, May 7 – Free guitar lessons take place on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. You can also try out the Wii bowling game. Then another class that will really get you moving is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Last weeks reported winners were: for social bridge, Connie Mehnem, first and Nancye Hoback, was second; and in duplicate bridge; partners, Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, were first and Betty Lowrey and Patricia Logan, came in second. A pool tournament was held and the champion was Frank Berry.

The second day of duplicate bridge winners included: John and Sandy Boepple, first; and Betty Lowrey and Camille Johnston, second.  The previous week winners in duplicate bridge were: Penny Sizemore and Seham El Sherif, first; and Judy Million and Gene Morse, second. A pool tournament was held and the champion was Wayne Vinson.

Last Chance for Free Income Tax Help at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will conclude the free income tax help, being offered by AARP tax preparers, on Wednesday, April 15 at 12:00 noon. The service will continue Monday through Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon until then. No appointments are taken. It is only a first come first serve basis. You need to bring last year’s income tax return, W-2 forms, identification including Social Security card and photo ID and any other documentation that might be needed to complete your return. Everyone 50 and over should check out their Senior Activity Center. It is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night.          Friday, April 3 – Exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting/crafting class all begin at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. country music can be heard playing as the line dancers move their feet in time to the music. Afternoon games include; canasta and duplicate bridge. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition!


         Last weeks reported winners were: for social bridge, Jean Herndon, first and Janetta Loper, was second; and in duplicate bridge; Adrienne Hyle and Meg Kletke, were first and Sandy Boepple and Bob Henderson, came in second. Wayne Venson and Jack Ventris tied as champions in the coed pool tournament.
