Income Tax Help at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center Coming to an End

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will offer income tax help one more day, which is Monday, April 15, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The free income tax service is provided by trained AARP volunteers. No appointments are necessary; it is a first come first serve basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. Thursday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. neck/shoulder massages will be provided by Paul Hirsch of Magic Touch. Sign up when you arrive. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up an April calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. A Thursday afternoon social bridge group is trying to start back up. If you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join or leave your name and phone number.

        Monday, April 15 – Monday morning is the last chance to get your taxes figured for free. This takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Women pool players and artists get together starting at 9:30 a.m. The women have a great time challenging each others shots and the painting class members enjoy checking out each others art skills. There is exercise equipment available that includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games such as: bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, April 16 – Limber up with the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center. They meet at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. These exercises are low impact that can be done while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed. A men’s pool tournament will get under way at 1:00 p.m. Come join the competition!

         Wednesday, April 17 – The women pool players don’t waste any time getting started after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are available for use. Exercise equipment is available, too. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The movie, “Hitchcock” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, April 18 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group meet up again at 9:30 a.m. After class, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. A group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. At 1:00 p.m. afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving, are played. Also at 1:00 p.m., neck and shoulder massages will be provided by Paul Hirsch. Bingo is at 2:00 p.m. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!

         Friday, April 19 – Pool balls are dropping again as the women line up their shots beginning at 9:30 a.m. A painting group meets at 9:30 a.m. to express their ideas on canvas. Bring your art supplies and ideas and join the class. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or Wii. Afternoon games include: cards, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, pool and snooker.

          Last weeks bridge winners were: Norma Burk, 1st; and Marge Reynolds, 2nd.  The duplicate bridge winning partners were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st ; and Jane Anderson and Treca Baer, 2nd.  The Texas Hold’em group met and the champion for the week was: Betty Shields. A coed pool tournament was also held the winner was Gerald Stangl.

April Birthday Luncheon to be Held at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

Come celebrate by bringing a food dish to share or pay $3/person. Also, time is about to run out for free income tax help.           Last weeks bridge winners were: Norma Burk, 1st; and Louie Geiser, 2nd.  The duplicate bridge winning partners were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st ; and Murna Raff, Carolyn Schwabe, Jane Anderson, and Lew Taylor all tied for 2nd.  The Texas Hold’em group met and the winners for the week were: Chestine Crane and Paul Hirsch.                                            

Vision Screening at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will host a vision screening, provided by Triad Eye Medical Clinic on Thursday, April 4 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. No scheduled appointments, sign in when you arrive. Busy Week at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center participants look forward to the busy week ahead. Monday, March 25 starting at 9:45 a defensive driving class will be held, which is full at this time. On Thursday, March 28 at 10:30 a.m., a book review on Woody Guthrie will be presented by Pat Jaynes and the Stillwater Public Library. Everyone is invited to attend, no sign up is required. This presentation is part of the ‘One Book, One Community” book sponsored by the Stillwater Public Library. Also, the Center is a place to come receive free income tax help.
