Busy Week at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center participants look forward to the busy week ahead. Monday, March 25 starting at 9:45 a defensive driving class will be held, which is full at this time. On Thursday, March 28 at 10:30 a.m., a book review on Woody Guthrie will be presented by Pat Jaynes and the Stillwater Public Library. Everyone is invited to attend, no sign up is required. This presentation is part of the ‘One Book, One Community” book sponsored by the Stillwater Public Library. Also, the Center is a place to come receive free income tax help. Trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers will be at the Center to provide the service through April 15. Their hours are Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. No appointments are necessary; it is a first come first serve basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a March calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join.

        Monday, March 25 – Women’s pool time is full of fun competitive play and fellowship. Also, a painting class comes in at the same time. They bring their own supplies and share each others ideas and expertise. Tax help is also scheduled, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00. The defensive driving class, which is at full capacity, starts at 9:45 a.m. There is also exercise equipment available that includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games such as: bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, March 26 – Free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercises begin at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. These exercises are done while sitting and also some are done while standing by your chair. Hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls are all utilized during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. Also, a ping pong table is available for use. Income tax assistance continues during the morning. In the afternoon, there is a choice of games that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, March 27 – Pool balls can be heard clacking as the women pool players take their aim at the cue ball after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment is available, too. Tax preparers work on taxes 9:30 a.m. to 12:00. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The movie, “           ” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, March 28 – The exercise group comes in again at 9:30 a.m. Senior participants can come get in shape with them and enjoy the fellowship. After class, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. Also, a group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. Income tax help continues from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Don’t forget the book review at 10:30 a.m. At 1:00 p.m. afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving, are played. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. A lot of laughs are always shared during this time. Don’t miss out on the good times. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and tuned up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!

         Friday, March 29 – Morning activities include women’s pool playing and the painting group getting creative on their canvases. All begins at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or Wii player. After lunch, check out the afternoon games of cards, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, pool and snooker.

          Last weeks bridge winners were: Janetta Loper, 1st; and Dollie McClary, 2nd.  The duplicate bridge winning partners were:  Betty Abenante and Seham El Sharif, 1st; and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, 2nd. The Texas Hold’em group met and the winners for the week were: Allen Shields and Paul Hirsch.
