Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular hours resume on Monday, December 2. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. While there, make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.

        Monday, Nov. 25 – Women can enjoy some rounds of 8-ball pool every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. They have a great time and share a lot of laughs together.  Also, an artist’s group comes in at the same time. They bring in their own supplies and help each other with ideas and questions they might have about their artwork. Other crafters are welcome to bring their projects and join the group, also. The Center has an exercise room with exercise bikes and a weight set for senior use. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, Nov. 26 – Get ready for the holidays now by getting a good workout with the free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit that is offered every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The exercises are low impact, and good for strength and flexibility. Some are done while sitting and others are done by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout!  In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving.  Please note: the Veteran’s Affairs representative will no longer be coming to the Senior Center. He will now be at Workforce Oklahoma’s Stillwater office at 3006 E. 6th St., from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays only.

The historical dramatic movie, “Parkland” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

          Champions for various games held last week were: social bridge winners; Wally Reynolds, 1st; and Lynn Fent, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners; Murna Raff and Betty Lowrey, 1st, and Meg Kletke and Laurene Opdyke, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for the week were: Lula Mae Davis and Darrell Davis.  A men’s pool tournament was held and the winner was Wayne Vinson.

Defensive Driving class to be held at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a defensive driving class on Monday, November 18 from 9:45 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m. An hour lunch break will be taken. The defensive driving class will be meeting from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This class could get you a discount on your vehicle insurance, so check with your insurance provider and join the class. Balance Clinic at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a balance clinic presented by Health Back Home Health on Thursday, November 14, at 10:30 a.m. They will check participant’s sense of balance and show exercises that can help improve one’s balance. Come learn some exercises to increase your balance. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Try a game of canasta or pool/snooker and at 2:00 p.m. join in the fun time of bingo.

Sign up for a Defensive Driving Class

Public Election Forum at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will host a public election forum on the upcoming voting on Propositions 1-3. Join Mayor John Bartley, City Manager Dan Galloway, Police Captain Randy Dickerson and Fire Chief Tom Bradley in the discussion on Tuesday, October 22 at 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Get your Flu Shot at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has a flu shot clinic scheduled for Monday, October 14, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This clinic is provided by HomeCall Home Health. No early signups. It is a first come first serve basis and you must bring your Medicare card to cover the cost of the shot. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up an October calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Once a month we will choose a classical movie to show. The classic dramatic movie, “African Queen” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

Exercise equipment is also available for use. Birthday lunch begins at 12:00 noon. Bring a food dish and make some new friends while enjoying a delicious pot-luck meal. Afternoon games include: canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker.

Unfortunately, flu season is also upon us. A flu clinic, sponsored by HomeCall, is scheduled here at the Center for Monday, October 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. No early signup, it is a first come, first serve basis. Also, bring your Medicare card for no charge.

        Monday, Oct. 7 – The week’s activities get under way beginning at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players have a fun time challenging each other in games of 8-ball.  And the artist’s bring in their own supplies and get creative and discuss their ideas with each other. Other crafters can bring their projects and join the group, also. The Center has an exercise room with a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight set for senior use, too. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, Oct. 8 –Senior’s join the free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit. The exercises are low impact. Some are done while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving.  Please note: the Veteran’s Affairs representative will no longer be coming to the Senior Center. He will now be at Workforce Oklahoma’s Stillwater office at 3006 E. 6th St., from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays only.

         Wednesday, Oct. 9 – The women pool players get out their pool sticks again after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. They experience some good fellowshipping while practicing their pool shots. Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and pool/snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a missing piece. The movie, “Lake Effects” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Oct. 10 –Join the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and get in shape. This class is offered at the Center from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  After class, Wii games, ping pong, or line dancing are available. Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Try a game of canasta or pool/snooker and at 2:00 p.m. join in the fun time of bingo.

         Friday, Oct. 11 – Women pool players and the artists arrive again after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. The women enjoy several rounds of 8-ball and the artists get creative on their canvases. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Birthday lunch begins at 12:00 noon. Bring a food dish and make some new friends while enjoying a delicious pot-luck meal. Afternoon games include: canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker.

          Champions for various games held last week were: social bridge winners; Norma Burk, 1st; and Mary Thomas, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Meg Kletke and Penny Sizemore, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champion for the past week was: Chestine Crane. Congratulations to the Stillwater senior pool players. They traveled to Ponca City Senior Center for a pool tournament and brought back the trophy!
