City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
offers a cool facility to come relax and meet new people. The Center offers a
friendly place to experience many activities for persons that are 50 and over. You
can exercise, line dance, Zumba, paint, enjoy music, play pool, cards, and
bingo. Hours for participation at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday,
9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m.
to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th
Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick
up a calendar of events.
Monday, Aug. 1 – If you need some exercise,
you should check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered every
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are put out for everyone and
a variety of exercises are done while sitting. Hand weights, stretchy bands and
bouncing balls are incorporated into the routine. Some exercises are also done
while standing, but a chair is always there for support if needed. A group of
women also come in at that time to play some friendly rounds of 8-ball pool.
They have a good time socializing. At 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class, a
line dancing class takes place. They do some good boot scooting to country
tunes. In the afternoon, bridge players arrive around 12:30 a.m. along with
canasta card players and pool/snooker players. A coed pool tournament will be
held at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to join the fun competition.
Tuesday, Aug. 2 – For a special workout, come
try the free “Zumba with Angie”, class. This is a free class offered at 10:30
a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Zumba is a fast paced exercise/dance class done
mostly to Latin American dance music. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide
on types allowed. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate
bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that
includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the
afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone
wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, Aug. 3 – Time to exercise again
with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. Also, women pool players arrive
ready to play some more 8-ball pool games. Later, at 10:30 a.m., after the
exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep time
with the swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta, and
other card games are played.
Thursday, Aug. 4 – Work up a sweat in the
Zumba class starting at 10:30 a.m. Remember to wear good sturdy shoes. Canasta
and bridge players start dealing out their cards at 1:00 p.m. Bingo has a guest
caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night
musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they
are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks
are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.
Friday,
Aug. 5 – Exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting class is held at 9:30
a.m. Bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the
class. Line dancers start their routines at 10:30 a.m. after the exercise
class. Afternoon card games begin around 1:00 p.m. except for duplicate bridge,
which begins at 12:15 p.m. Also, a puzzle is always out on the table waiting
for a piece to be found.
Last weeks reported winners for social
bridge were: Lynn Fent, 1st;
and Thea Pratt, 2nd. Duplicate
bridge winners were: Jerry Koelsch and Sandy Boepple, 1st; and Norma
Burke and Carolyn Schwabe,
2nd. The previous week, duplicate bridge winners reported that Adrienne
Hyle and Meg Kletke came in 1st; and Camille Johnston and Betty
Lowrey were 2nd.
