Closed for Labor Day

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Monday, September 3 in observance of Labor Day. Also, on Friday, September 7 starting at 9:30 a.m. the senior pool players will challenge the Ponca City senior pool players in a tournament. This is always a fun tournament, so come be a part of the fun. Seniors, 50 and older are welcome to join the many activities offered at the Center. Center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join.

        Tuesday, Sept. 4 – A free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class meets up every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Texas Hold’em, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, Sept. 5 – Women’s pool gets under way starting at 9:30 a.m. They have a friendly competitive time at the pool table. A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment which includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine are available, also. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The drama, romance movie, “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Sept. 6 – Give your body a good stretching and toning by joining the free Sit’n Be Fit class which meets at 9:30 a.m. Afterwards, Wii Fit is available to use. This is an interactive game system that challenges and can help improve your balance. At 1:00 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

         Friday, Sept. 7 – The Stillwater vs. Ponca City pool tournament will begin at 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Come participate or be cheerleader, it is a lot of fun! Also, at the same time a painting class gets together to share their artistic talents. Exercise equipment, Wii games, and a ping pong table are available for use, too. Afternoon games include: canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, dominoes, and a puzzle to work. At 1:00 p.m. a men’s pool tournament will be held.

        Last weeks winners of bridge were: Penny Sizemore, 1st; and Jane Anderson, 2nd. Other bridge winners were: Linda Jamison, 1st and Pauline Poe, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff; 1st; and Betty Abenante and Murna Raff were 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners of the week were: Allen Shields and Lula Mae Davis. Frank Berry won a 9 ball pool tournament that the men played.

Afternoon activities get going around 1:00 p.m. These include; bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool and snooker.

Wayne Vinson was the champion of the coed in-house pool tournament held last week.

Take Advantage of the Fun this week!

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center wants you to take advantage of the facility and all the fun activities it offers to seniors, 50 and older. You are invited to come see what there is to participate in while socializing and making new friends. Card games of various kinds, pool and snooker, movies, painting, bingo, and exercising are among the many activities offered.         Last weeks winners of bridge were: Penny Sizemore, 1st; and J.W. Thomas, 2nd. Other bridge winners were: Orlean Hunter, 1st and Cloyann Fent, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Betty Abenante, Murna Raff, Al Perry and Lionel Raff; all tied for 1st; and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller were 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners of the week were: Dollie McClary and Betty Shields. Larry Leonard was the champion of the men’s in-house pool tournament held last week.

         Friday, Aug. 17 – Join the women’s pool group or check out the painting class at 9:30 a.m. There is exercise equipment, Wii games, and a ping pong table is available for use, too. Afternoon games include: canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, dominoes, and a puzzle to work. A coed pool tournament will get under way at 1:00 p.m.

        Last weeks winners of bridge were: Janetta Loper, 1st; and Wally Reynolds, 2nd. Other bridge winners were: Linda Jamison, 1st and Edith Flaming, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, 1st; and Norma Burk and Lew Taylor, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners of the week were: Chestine Crane and Maxine Morgan. Shirley Crockett won the Texas Hold’em playoff game for the month.
