A New Year at the Senior Center

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will begin a new year of fun activities. Come check it out! Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a January calendar of events.
        Monday, Jan. 3 – The women have a great time playing pool starting at 9:30 a.m. and an oil painting class also meets at that time for some creative fun. Also, a Wii gaming system is always ready to set up for you to try. Exercise equipment is available for senior use such as; a treadmill, exercise bikes, a weight machine, and a ping pong table. Afternoon gets busy with bridge, canasta, pitch, pool, dominoes, Mexican Train dominoes, puzzle solving, and a Texas Hold’em winner’s game.
        Tuesday, Jan. 4 – Work off your holiday calories by joining the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. It meets every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person during the 45-minute, low impact exercise workout. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. At 10:30 a.m. you can stay and continue your exercise while playing a variety of games on the Wii system or try some ping-pong. Tuesday afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.
         Wednesday, Jan. 5 – Women’s pool, ping-pong and Wii interactive games are all available for some fun times beginning at 9:30 a.m. Activities for the afternoon include; canasta, pool, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, puzzle solving, and a movie. The movie, “Just Wright”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.
         Thursday, Jan. 6 – Exercise again with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time bowling with the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. Then in the afternoon you can join in games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.
         Friday, Jan. 7 – Women’s pool starts the morning off at 9:30. So bring your favorite pool stick or find one here at the Center and join in the fun and friendly competition. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon brings out several games that include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.
         Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: J.W. Thomas, 1st, and Dollie McClary, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Lew Taylor, 1st, and Norma Burk, 2nd. The Texas Hold’em champions of the week were Phyllis Sanders and Maxine Morgan.

Holiday Closing at the Senior Center

Senior Center News December 13-17, 2010

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a hearing clinic provided by Integrity Hearing Aid Clinic, on Tuesday, December 14 at 1:30 p.m. Also, a Medicare supplement and prescription review will be held Thursday, December 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sign-up now for an appointment! There will be no charge for either one of these clinics. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. Thursday, Dec. 16 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class meets again at 9:30 a.m. Afterwards, stay and have some more fun bowling with the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. Then in the afternoon you can join in games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, puzzle solving. A certified senior market representative will be at the Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to do Medicare supplements and prescription reviews at no charge. Make your appointment now!

Friday, Dec. 17– Friday morning begins at 9:30 with women’s pool and a craft class. Bring you pool stick or a craft project to work on and enjoy the fun and friendly conversations. The afternoon crowd likes to play canasta, pitch, pool, Mexican train dominoes, regular dominoes, and finding pieces to the puzzle.

Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Treca Adams, 1st, and Jean Herndon, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Norma Burk, 1st, and Jeanne Welch, 2nd. Duplicate bridge players got together and the winning partners of the group were: Donna Beason and Betty Lowery, 1st; and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, 2nd. The Texas Hold’em champions of the week were Bud Moats and Phyllis Sanders. A monthly winner’s game of Texas Hold’em was also held and the winner was Don Lorett.
