Stillwater Senior Activity Center Closes for New Years

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed on Thursday, December 31 and Friday, January 1 for New Year’s. Regular hours and activities will resume on Monday, January 4. With the New Year starting, you should plan to check out the Senior Activity Center. It is open to participants 50 years and older. You can get busy with activities such as: exercise class, women’s pool time, line dancing, Zumba dancing, card games that include canasta and bridge, pool and snooker, bingo, and music night. There is no charge for these fun activities just a willingness to have a good friendly time. Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Bring your New Year’s resolution, to get in shape, to the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class.  It is held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The exercise class utilizes stretchy bands to test flexibility and bouncing balls to help with hand/eye coordination, along with stretching and toning exercises. Each person has a chair for some of the exercises and some are done while standing by your chair. Women pool players also come in at 9:30 a.m. and play several friendly rounds of 8-ball. They would welcome some new women players to come join in the fun competition. At 10:30 a.m. line dancers step in time to country songs. You are welcome to come join the group and get some exercise while having fun. During the afternoon, canasta and social bridge players get out their cards for plenty of good times. This is a fast paced dance exercise class that takes place at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. The exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance music. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

        Wednesday, December 30 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class members meet up again at 9:30 a.m.  Women pool players also get out their pool sticks for some good friendly 8-ball. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep up with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will take place. Come enjoy the fun competition

         Last weeks reported winners for social bridge were: Connie Mennem, 1st, and Lynn Fent, 2nd.  Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Penny Sizemore and Lucy Robinson, 1st and Lionel Raff and Al Perry, came in 2nd. The second day of duplicate bridge winners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st and Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 2nd. The pool tournament champion for the week was Vic Berryman.

         Friday, December 18 – Friday mornings are busy starting at 9:30 a.m., with Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting class. The painting class is a good social time to bring your art supplies and get creative and discuss your project ideas with the other class members. A popular game in the afternoon, starting around 12:15 p.m., is duplicate bridge. Then canasta players start coming in around 12:30 p.m. They all have a good time and enjoy the fellowshipping. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to come by and put in a piece or two.

Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a Defensive Driving Class

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be holding a defensive driving class on Monday, December 7 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sign up now, class is limited. Meridian Technology Center will be instructing the course. By taking the class, you could possible receive a discount on your vehicle insurance. Check with your insurance provider. Also, on Friday, December 11 at 12:00 noon participant’s December birthdays will be celebrated with a pot-luck luncheon. Ham with pineapple will be the entrĂ©e and participants can bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and enjoy the socialization.         The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a pot-luck luncheon to celebrate participates November birthdays. The celebration will start at 12:00 noon, Friday, November 13. Turkey will be served as the entrĂ©e. You can bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and enjoy the delicious food and friendly conversations. The Senior Activity Center offers many activities for participants, 50 years old and older such as; exercise classes, pool/snooker playing, guitar lessons, line dancing, Zumba, painting classes, card games, bridge, a monthly movie, and a music night. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everybody wins a prize!

Stillwater Senior Activity Center Will Offer a Second Flu Shot Clinic

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has scheduled another flu shot clinic for Wednesday, November 4 starting at 10:30 a.m. This one will be provided by Tiger Drug. There is not a charge if you bring your Medicare card with Part B. The shots will be given on a first come first serve basis. The monthly movie, “My Old Lady”, will be shown Wednesday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m.  This movie is a comedy, drama that stars; Maggie Smith and Kevin Kline. It is rated PG13. Flu Prevention Time at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is getting ready for the flu season. A flu shot clinic will be offered at the Center on Monday, October 19 starting at 1:00 p.m. HomeCall Home Health will provide the shots free of charge for those who present their Medicare card with Part B. There will be a charge without your card. No early sign up, this will be a first come first serve basis. A sign in sheet will available when you arrive and get in line.         Wednesday, October 7 – Time to test your flexibility and increase your endurance by joining the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. The exercises are done in a combination of sitting and standing, and a chair is always there for support. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time also at 9:30 a.m.  Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep up with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played.

         Thursday, October 8 – It’s Zumba time! Class starts at 10:30 a.m. You can work up a good sweat exercising to the jazzy tunes. Afternoon games start at 1:00 p.m. Canasta and bridge are popular games of choice. Bingo is called by a guest caller at 2:00 p.m. Every one bingos and receives a prize. Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, October 9 – Exercisers, women 8-ball pool players, and the painting class members all meet up again at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot around the floor to some lively tunes. Afternoon games of duplicate bridge begin around 12:15 p.m. Canasta players start coming in around 12:30 p.m. along with pool players.   


         Last weeks reported winners for social bridge were: Bena Harper, 1st, and Lynn Fent, 2nd; duplicate bridge winning partners were;  Al Perry and Lionel Raff, were 1st; Bob Henderson and Laurie Schlobohm, were 2nd. The second day of duplicate bridge champions were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Camille Johnston and Penny Sizemore, 2nd.  The winner of the pool tournament this week was Frank Berry.

Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a Second Medicare Seminar

       The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has a second Medicare Seminar scheduled on Tuesday, September 29 at 10:30 a.m. This is a free AAA-sponsored Medicare 101 meeting presented by Aetna insurance. Everyone is welcome to attend. The Center is open for participants, 50 years old and older. Many activities are offered, such as: exercise classes, pool/snooker playing, line dancing, Zumba, painting classes, card games, bridge, a monthly movie, and a music night. Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evening, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

        The Walk in the Park event for senior walkers is ongoing in Couch Park. Seniors can sign up and log in each time at the Center. Walk the trail ten times and earn a t-shirt and better health.

        Monday, Sept. 28 – The Center offers a free exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit, a women’s pool playing time, and a painting/crafting class all starting at 9:30 a.m. The exercise class is a 45-minute workout that utilizes stretchy bands to test flexibility and bouncing balls to help with hand/eye coordination, along with stretching and toning exercises. The women pool players like to play several rounds of 8-ball in a fun competitive way. They share a lot of laughs and good conversations. Painting and crafting are done in an informal class. They share ideas and pointers for their art work with each other and bring their own art supplies. At 10:30 a.m. line dancers step in time to country songs. You are welcome to come join the group and get some exercise while having fun. During the afternoon, canasta and social bridge players get out their cards for plenty of good times. Also, pool and snooker playing is popular. A jig-saw puzzle is always out enticing someone to find another piece. Exercise equipment, including a treadmill, is available too.

Stillwater Senior Activity Center Closed for Labor Day

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day. The rest of the week will be full of special activities. On Tuesday, September 8 at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will take place. Blood pressure checks will be taken by Northern Oklahoma College nursing students on Wednesday, September 9 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Zumba with Angie class wants to celebrate all the fun they have with a      pot-luck Fiesta. This will take place at 11:30 a.m., after the Zumba class on Thursday, September 10, at 10:30 a.m. You can join the Zumba class and bring a Mexican food dish for the Fiesta. Another pot-luck luncheon will be held on Friday, September 11 at 12:00 noon. September birthdays will be celebrated with chef salads as the entrĂ©e. Bring a food dish to share and enjoy the good food and conversations.  The Center is open for participants, 50 years old and older.         The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will show the monthly movie this Wednesday, September 2 at 2:00 p.m. The movie showing this month is, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”, starring Maggie Smith and Judi Dench. The sequel and most recent to this one will be shown next month. The Center is open for participants, 50 years old and older.
