Stay Cool at the Senior Activity Center

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is the place to beat the summer heat and stay cool while playing various games of fun. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a June calendar of events.

Monday, June 20 – The week gets off to a fun start at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning. Women’s pool is a fun time for the ladies to practice their pool shoots and enjoy some friendly socializing. Also, a painting group comes in with their canvases and supplies of choice ready to get creative. Afternoon activities get going around 1:00 p.m. These activities include: bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, pitch, and jig saw puzzle solving.

Tuesday, June 21 – Sit ‘n Be Fit free exercise class begins at 9:30 a.m. This is a 45-minute workout where chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. Wii play or Wii Fit is available for a fun time after the exercise class. How about a game of ping pong? Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

Wednesday, June 22 – The women get their pool sticks out again at 9:30 a.m. Wii interactive games are also available. A Defensive Driving Class is being held from 9:30a-4:30p. Activities for the afternoon begin at 1:00 p.m. These include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, Mexican Train dominoes, and puzzle solving. The drama movie, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”, will be shown at 2pm.

Thursday, June 23 – You should check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class that meets at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, Wii games and ping pong is available for some fun. You can join in afternoon games of canasta, social bridge, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, June 24 – Popular cool activities for Friday morning are women’s pool and the painting class. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon games include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.

Last weeks winners of rubber bridge were: Dollie McClary, 1st, and JW Thomas, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Murna Raff and Jerry Koelsch, 1st; and Patricia Logan and Don Lorett, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Ina Lee Abel, 1st; and Lynn Fent, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners for last week were Dollie McClary and Phyllis Sanders.

A Wii Bowling Tournament was also held last week and the winners were: Laquita Seals, 1st, with a score of 190 and Gwen Morrow, 2nd, with a score of 175.

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day. Tuesday will resume with regular hours. On Thursday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Stillwater seniors will challenge the Ponca City Senior Center pool players.
