Free Blood Pressure Checks at the Stillwater Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold free blood pressure checks on Tuesday, January 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. These will be provided by Home Call Home Health. The Center is a fun active place to attend for activities such as; exercise and dance classes, bridge, pool playing and tournaments, card games, painting and crafting, bingo, music, movies and even guitar lessons. Everyone 50 and over should check out their Senior Activity Center. It is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a calendar of events when you stop by. Reminder: Winter is upon us now so if the Stillwater Public schools decide to close due to inclement weather, the Stillwater Senior Activity Center will also be closed. Also note; the free AARP income tax assistance will begin at the Center Monday, February 2. The hours will be Monday through Thursday mornings, 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. No appointments are taken. It is a first come first serve basis. You need to bring last year’s income tax return, W-2 forms, identification including Social Security card and any other documentation that might be needed to complete your return.

       Monday, Jan. 26 – Senior Center participants start the week off with a free exercise class. The Sit n’ Be Fit exercise class is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. This class utilizes stretching bands, bouncing balls and sponge balls as part of the stretching and limbering up routine. Check it out! Women’s pool playing or a painting/crafting class goes on at this time, also. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a different kind of exercise by joining the line dancing class and boot scootin’ to country tunes. Afternoon activities include: canasta, bridge, puzzle solving, pool, and snooker.

        Tuesday, Jan. 27 – Wii bowling takes place at 9:30 a.m. This is a fun game played on a gaming system. If you like to bowl why not try it out? Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get some energetic exercise in the free Zumba class. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. At 1:00 p.m. blood pressure checks will be taken. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

         Wednesday, Jan. 28 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class is a good source of stretching and flexibility exercises starting at 9:30 a.m. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. An afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. This week’s movie is an adventure film titled, “Dolphin Tale 2”.

         Thursday, Jan. 29 – Time to Wii bowl again, starting at 9:30 a.m.  Or you could try out your musical skills with free guitar lessons. Then another class that will really burn up the calories is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m.  Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, Jan. 30 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and the painting/crafting class all take place at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. country music can be heard playing as the line dancers move their feet in time to the music. After lunch, come down to the Center and get in a game of canasta or pool. At 1:00 p.m. a coed 8-ball pool tournament will be held. Senior aged men and women are welcome to participate.


         Game champions announced for last week were: for social bridge; Lynn Fent, 1st and Beverly Dale, 2nd; and for duplicate bridge; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st, and Betty Lowery and Camille Johnston, 2nd. The winner of the pool tournament for the week was Vic Berryman.

Senior Center Closed for MLK Jr. Day

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed on Monday, January 19 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. day. Regular activities will resume on Tuesday. The Center is a fun active place to attend for activities such as; exercise and dance classes, bridge, pool playing and tournaments, card games, painting and crafting, bingo, music, movies and even guitar lessons. Start your New Year out Right at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a fun active place to choose if you want to get out and do something that will entertain and keep you busy. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.         Monday, Jan. 12 – If your New Year’s resolution is to get in shape, why not try out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The class gives you a good 45-minute workout. Some exercises are done while sitting and also while standing by a chair. Stretching is done using elastic bands of different strengths. Also, spongy balls, wooden sticks, and weights are incorporated in to the routines. The women pool players also meet at the same time to shoot some games of 8-ball pool. Or, you could try your hand at painting or crafting in the art class at 9:30 a.m. Bring your art supplies and show off your talents. Then afterwards the line dancers will work off some of their extra calories with their fancy footwork. Beginners to more advance dancers are all welcome. They have a good and invigorating time. Later, during the afternoon games of bridge, canasta, pool/snooker, and jig saw puzzle solving are popular.
