The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will only offer the free tax help by AARP trained preparers through Tuesday,
April 15; 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It is a first come first serve basis. Sign in
when you arrive. Bring your last year’s tax return if possible and all other
necessary information and identification. The Center also offers many
activities for seniors 50 and over. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or
call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up an April calendar
of events when you stop by. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30
p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is
closed on weekends.
Monday,
April 14 – Women, come join the pool players for some fun games of 8-ball every
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. You can bring your pool
stick or use one from the Center and have some fun! An art class also comes in during
the same time. They bring their own supplies and help each other with
suggestive ideas as needed. The income tax preparers also arrive by then ready
to help until 12:00 noon. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two
exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. The afternoon
brings out bridge, canasta players, and pool shooters.
Tuesday, April 15 – Today, is the last chance
to take advantage of the free income tax assistance offered at the Center from
9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. So, if you are not getting your taxes done, why not check
out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise program. The Center provides this class every
Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. It offers a low impact, 45 minute
workout that helps strengthen and tone up your muscles. Some exercises are done
while sitting and others are done while standing next to your chair utilizing hand
weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls. Afterwards, stay and practice some
boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout! In the
afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker
and jig-saw puzzle solving. A men’s 8-ball pool tournament will be held at 1:00
p.m. Men, fifty and over are welcome to participate in the fun competition.
Wednesday, April 16 – The women pool players practice
their pool shots again beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Also, Wii bowling is played on Wednesday morning at the same opening
time. They have a really good time. Come check it out! Then, in the afternoon
games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker are played along with an
afternoon movie, at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a highly acclaimed animated
movie” titled, “Frozen.”
Thursday, April 17 – The free exercise class
called Sit ‘n Be Fit offered at the Center at 9:30 a.m. can help you test your
endurance and strengthen your muscles. It will give you a good workout. If you
would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group
that meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get to moving and can work up a sweat
while having fun. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or
snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner.

Friday, April 18 – Popular Friday
morning activities are women’s pool playing and painting in the art class.
These begin at 9:30 a.m. Exercise
equipment is also available for use. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. and
consist of; canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool or snooker.
Game champions announced for the past
week were: social bridge did not report any winners; duplicate bridge winners
reported: Murna Raff and Seham El Sharif, 1st; Camille Johnston and Terry
Miller, 2nd. A men’s 8-ball pool tournament was held and the
champion was Vic Berryman. The popular Wii bowling game participants also
reported some winners; which were Evelyn Smith, high score and Lee Arnswald,
