Senior Center Closed for Labor Day

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 1. Activities will resume on Tuesday, September 2 at 9:30 a.m. A coed pool tournament will be played on Tuesday, September 2 at 1:00 p.m. All seniors 50 and over are welcome to participate. You should check out what is going on at your Senior Center. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a September calendar of events when you stop by. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.

        Monday, Sept. 1- Center is closed.

        Tuesday, Sept. 2 –You should check out the fun of Wii bowling. It is a popular activity at the Senior Center every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. This is a played on a game system where each player is in control of his own game by holding the hand controller and trying to make strikes just like at a real bowling alley. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. All seniors are invited to come join the fun. Bingo players also meet up on Tuesday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

         Wednesday, Sept. 3 – Starting at 9:30 a.m. things at the Center start hop’in with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women’s pool playing. Then at 10:30 a.m. the line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. In the afternoon games of canasta and pool are played. An afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a family film, titled, “Home Run.”

         Thursday, Sept. 4 – A fun time with Wii bowling begins at 9:30 a.m. In the afternoon, try a game of canasta, or some pool/snooker playing. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. During the evening, starting at 6:00 p.m., musicians tune up their instruments to make some good toe-tappin country music. Come enjoy the music!
  
       Friday, Sept. 5 – Friday mornings are active with exercise class, women’s 8-ball, and a painting/crafting class, all beginning at 9:30 a.m. And at 10:30 a.m. line dancing class members move to the music. After lunch, the cards will be brought out for games of canasta, and pool balls for rounds of pool/snooker.


         Game champions announced for last week were: social bridge winners; Dolly McClary, 1st and Lynn Fent, 2nd.  Duplicate bridge winners were; Patricia Logan and Betty Lowrey, 1st and Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 2nd. Winner of the pool tournament last week was Wayne Vinson. Wii bowling champions for the week were Walt Spaid and Jean Hatcher.        

Free Blood Pressure Checks at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a free blood pressure check station, provided by Home Call Home Health, on Wednesday, August 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. No appointments are needed. Also, an ice cream/cake social will take place on Wednesday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. If you have been planning to come down to the Senior Center, this will provide a good time to check out the Center and all the activities offered. Come get in shape while having a good time, too. Women 8-ball players also get exercise moving around the pool tables practicing their shooting skills. Bring your pool stick or use one from the Center and join the fun. The painting/crafting class members also join their talents together every Monday and Friday at 9:30 a.m. Seniors bring your project and exchange ideas with the group. Also, at 10:30 a.m. a group of line dancers practice some boot scoot’in moves. Check it out and get a powerful workout while having a blast! Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Bridge and canasta are popular card games played along with pool/snooker and puzzle solving.

During the evening, starting at 6:00 p.m., musicians tune up their instruments to make some good

Busy Week at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has a busy week planned. On Monday, August 11 at 10:30 a.m., Lois Jackson, a certified massage therapist will give foot and hand massages. Wednesday, August 13 at 1:00 p.m. Paige Peterson, an insurance agent, can check you Medicare medications and see if you could be saving some money. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be played. All seniors 50 and over are welcome to participate. You should check out what is going on at your Senior Center. Celebrating August Birthdays at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate participant’s August birthdays with a pot-luck luncheon on Friday, August 8 at 12:00 noon. The theme for the luncheon will be a hamburger and hotdog cookout. Bring a food dish to share with the entrĂ©e or pay $3/person and join the fun!  The Center offers a great place to stay cool while enjoying the many activities for seniors 50 and over.
