The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will hold a free blood pressure check station, provided by Home Call Home
Health, on Wednesday, August 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. No appointments are
needed. Also, an ice cream/cake social will take place on Wednesday, September
27 at 2:00 p.m. If you have been planning to come down to the Senior Center, this
will provide a good time to check out the Center and all the activities offered.
A coed pool tournament will be played on Friday, August 29 at 1:00 p.m. All seniors
50 and over are welcome to participate. You should check out what is going on
at your Senior Center. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080
for more information. Make sure to pick up a calendar of events when you stop
by. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and
Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on
weekends.
Monday, Aug. 25 – Sit ‘n Be Fit is a free
exercise class that is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m.
This is a good workout that utilizes stretchy bands, bouncing balls, and hand
weights, while sitting or standing by a chair. Come get in shape while having a
good time, too. Women 8-ball players also get exercise moving around the pool tables
practicing their shooting skills. Bring your pool stick or use one from the
Center and join the fun. The painting/crafting class members also join their
talents together every Monday and Friday at 9:30 a.m. Seniors bring your
project and exchange ideas with the group. Also, at 10:30 a.m. a group of line
dancers practice some boot scoot’in moves. Check it out and get a powerful
workout while having a blast! Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Bridge and
canasta are popular card games played along with pool/snooker and puzzle
solving.
Tuesday, Aug. 26 –Wii bowling is popular at
the Senior Center. Come check it out
every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. This is a played on a game system where
each player is in control of his own game by holding the hand controller and
trying to make strikes just like at a real bowling alley. Exercise equipment
that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available
for use, too. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge,
dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Bingo players also meet up on Tuesday
afternoons at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!
Wednesday, Aug. 27 – Morning activities start
at 9:30 a.m. with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women’s pool playing.
Then at 10:30 a.m. the line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swingin’
country tunes. In the afternoon games of canasta and pool are played. An
afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a drama, titled,
“Labor Day.”
Thursday, Aug. 28 – It is time for Wii bowling
again, beginning at 9:30 a.m. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta. At
2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. During the
evening, starting at 6:00 p.m., musicians tune up their instruments to make
some good toe-tappin country music. Come enjoy the music!
Friday, Aug. 29 – Friday mornings are
active with exercise class, women’s 8-ball, and a painting/crafting class, all
beginning at 9:30 a.m. And at 10:30 a.m. line dancing class members move to the
music. After lunch, the cards will be brought out for games of canasta, and
pool balls for rounds of pool/snooker. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool
tournament will be held. All seniors are invited to come join the fun.
Game champions announced for last week
were: social bridge winners; Cindy Smith, 1st and Lynn Fent, 2nd.
Duplicate bridge winners were; Sandy
Boepple and Murna Raff, 1st and Terry Miller and Audrey Harrison, 2nd.
Winner of the pool tournament last week was Vic Berryman. Wii bowling champion
for the week was Lynn Duncan.
