Enjoy Music Night at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers a free night of music provided by talented musicians who volunteer to play every Thursday evening. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the musicians start playing their country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Also, during the week a coed pool tournament will be played on Thursday, August 21 at 1:00 p.m. All seniors 50 and over are welcome to participate. You should check out what is going on at your Senior Center. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up an August calendar of events when you stop by. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.

        Monday, Aug. 18 – A free exercise class takes place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. This is a good workout that utilizes stretchy bands, bouncing balls, and hand weights, while sitting or standing by a chair. Women 8-ball players also get exercise moving around the pool tables practicing their shooting skills. Bring your pool stick or use one from the Center and join the fun. A painting/crafting class also meets. It is a good social time to get together and help each other with artistic ideas. Also, at 10:30 a.m. a group of line dancers practice some boot scoot’in moves. Check it out and get a powerful workout while having a blast! Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Bridge and canasta are popular card games played along with pool/snooker and puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, Aug. 19 –Wii bowling is a fun social time for seniors. Come check it out every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. This is a popular game played on a game system where each player is in control of his own game by holding the hand controller and trying to make strikes just like at a real bowling alley. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Bingo players also meet up on Tuesday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

         Wednesday, Aug. 20 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women pool playing begins at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. the line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swingin’ country tunes. Then, in the afternoon games of canasta and pool are played. An afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is an animated comedy, titled, “Rio 2.”

         Thursday, Aug. 21 – Wii bowlers get out their controls and hit the bowling alley again starting at 9:30 a.m. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. All seniors are invited to come join the fun.  At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. During the evening, starting at 6:00 p.m., musicians tune up their instruments to make some good 
toe-tappin country music. Come enjoy the music!

        Friday, Aug. 22 – Friday mornings are active with exercise class, women’s 8-ball, and a painting/crafting class, all beginning at 9:30 a.m. And at 10:30 a.m. line dancing class members move to the music. After lunch, the cards will be brought out for games of canasta, and pool balls for rounds of pool/snooker.


         Game champions announced for last week were: social bridge winners; Anna Cooper, 1st and Cindy Smith, 2nd.  Duplicate bridge winners were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st and Murna Raff, Sandy Boepple, Norma Burk, and Treca Baer all tied for 2nd. Winner of the pool tournament last week was Vic Berryman. Wii bowling champions for the week were Walt Spaid and Jean Hatcher.
