Will Rogers Book Review

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will host an, “One Book, One Community” book discussion on “Will Rogers”, a biography written by his wife, Betty Rogers. This discussion will be presented by Pat Jaynes and is open to the community on Friday, March 23 at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Also, the free income tax service continues to be provided by AARP trained representatives. This service is Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will run through April 17th. No appointment is needed. Bring your last year’s tax return and all income information. Center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Monday, March 19 –Women’s pool shooting and a painting class; are a couple of the morning events that begin at 9:30 a.m. Also, the tax aid preparers will be busy from 9:30 to 12 noon. In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m. games of; rubber bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and Mexican train dominoes, are played.

Tuesday, March 20 – Get in shape with the free Sit’n Be Fit exercise class that is offered at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. This class is a 45-minute workout where chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. The free tax help continues from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a men’s in-house pool tournament will be played. Everyone come join the fun!

The adventure movie, “Hugo”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

The income tax aid group meets again at 9:30 until 12 noon. Afterwards, Wii Fit is available to use. This is an interactive game system that challenges and can help improve your balance. At 1:00 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

Last weeks winners of rubber bridge were: Treca Baer, 1st and Dollie McClary
and Marge Reynolds, tied for 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Lew Taylor, 1st, and Shirley Crockett, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Jerry Koelsch and Patricia Logan, 1st; Lew Taylor and Charles Foreman, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners of the week were: Shirley Crockettt and Allen Shields. A men’s pool tournament was held and the winner was Larry Leonard.

Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Lionel Raff and Seham El Sherif, 1st; Betty Lowrey and Donna Beason, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winner of the week was: Betty Shields. A Texas Hold’em winner’s game was also held and Sue Adams was the grand champion. A coed in-house pool tournament took place last week and Wayne Vinson was 1st, and Ron Thomas came in 2nd.

Celebrating March Birthdays!

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate the senior’s March birthdays with a pot-luck luncheon on Friday, March 9 at 12 noon. Everyone brings a food dish to share or pays $3/person. The band, ‘On the Doss” is planning to entertain with their Irish music. A free income tax service continues to be provided by AARP trained representatives. This service is Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will run through April 17th. No appointment is needed. Bring your last year’s tax return and all income information. Also, Healthcare Solutions will be here Thursday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m. to provide free blood pressure checks. Center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Monday, March 5 – Pool shooting and artistic skills are both tested starting at 9:30 a.m. The women test their skills at lining up a pool shot while enjoying each others fellowship. This class is a 45-minute workout where chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

At 2:00 p.m. Mays Home Care will sponsor the bingo games. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

There is exercise equipment, Wii games, and a ping pong table all available for use, too. In the afternoon, games are played that include: canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and a puzzle is out waiting for someone to find the missing pieces.

Last weeks winners of rubber bridge were: Marge Reynolds, 1st, and Wally Reynolds, 2nd. Social bridge winners: Cloyann Fent, 1st, and Lew Taylor, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Terry Miller and Camille Johnston, 1st; Norma Burk and Treca Baer, 2nd. Texas Hold’em weekly winners were Gail Marrow and Betty Shields. The winner of the Texas Hold’em Winner’s game was Dollie McClary. A men’s in-house pool tournament was held and Ron Thomas took 1st and Larry Leonard, 2nd.

Active Week at the Senior Center

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will have an active week of events. Free income tax assistance is being provided by AARP trained representatives. This service is Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This service will run through April 17th. No appointment is needed. Bring your last year’s tax return and all income information. Also, coming up in the week, free blood pressure checks will be provided by Healthback Home Health Care on Thursday, February 9 at 1:30 p.m. No appointment is needed for this service. On Friday, February 10, at 12:00 noon the February birthday luncheon will be held. Bring a food dish to share or $3/person, Make a note, coming next month on March 12th the popular defensive driving class will be held from 9:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Call or come by to sign up now. The Center is a fun place to come and socialize with other seniors, 50 and over, while participating in many different activities.
