Stillwater Senior Activity Center Participants Stay Cool

        City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers a cool place for seniors to come this summer. Many fun activities are available for people 50 years and older. A water aerobics class begins this week at the Stillwater Municipal public pool beginning Tuesday, June 7 at 12:30 a.m. The classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday, 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. until July 28. Each session is $2, and is paid at the swimming pool each time you attend class.  Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends.         Monday, June 6 – A free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit takes place after the doors open at 9:30 a.m.  Chairs are set up for everyone, so some exercises are done from your chair and then some are done while standing by the chair. The exercises give you a good stretching and toning. Come check it out! The women pool players get out their pool sticks after the doors open. They play several rounds of fun 8-ball and exchange good friendly conversations. After the exercise class is finished, a line dancing class follows up at 10:30 a.m. They get a workout while having fun boot scootin’ around the floor. Canasta card players and bridge players arrive ready to deal out the cards around 1:00 p.m. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to join the fun competition.

        Tuesday, June 7 – A Zumba class meets up at the Center at 10:30 a.m. ready for some fast paced exercise/dance moves. This class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance music. It will give you a good workout. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Remember the water aerobics class begins today promptly at 12:30 a.m. Exercise equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out for all the puzzlers.

        Wednesday, June 8 – The exercisers meet up again ready to get in shape at 9:30 a.m. Also, women pool players start having fun at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep up with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta, and other card games are played.

         Friday, June 10 – Friday morning activities start off with exercise class, pool playing for women, and a painting class at 9:30 a.m. You can bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the class. Line dancers start their routines at 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class. Afternoon card games begin around 12:30 p.m. except for duplicate bridge, which begins at 12:15 p.m.  Also, a puzzle is always out on the table waiting for a piece to be found.


         Last weeks reported winners in social bridge were: Louie Geiser, 1st, and Sally Simmons, 2nd. No winners were turned in for duplicate bridge. The pool tournament winner for the week was Vic Berryman.

Stretching and toning exercises are done using hand weights, rubber balls, and sponge balls. It is a good 45-minute workout. Also, a women’s pool playing time is offered at 9:30 a.m. Several exciting rounds of 8-ball pool are played.  At 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class, line dancing class participates continue to get some more exercise while swooshing around the floor. Afternoon brings in card players, bridge games, and pool/snooker shooters.

Busy Week Coming Up for Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be busy this week with many activities. On Thursday, May 12, from 10-11:30 a.m., Judith Karman Bristol Hospice will sponsor a panel discussion at the Senior Center. The public is welcome to participate in conversations about, “End of Life Decisions”. Topics will be; making your wishes known to family and doctors and personalizing your Advanced Directive/DNR. Then on Friday, May 13 at 12:00 noon a catered luncheon for Center participants will take place. Barbeque meat will be the main food dish at the price of $2/person.
