Big Celebrations Held at Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold two celebrations together at the same time on Wednesday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. Participant’s May birthdays will be celebrated along with honoring our 80 and over seniors with cake, ice cream, and punch. Come and celebrate with us! The Center offers many fun activities for people 50 years and older. Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

        Monday, May 23 – The Center offers a free exercise class, called “Sit n ‘Be Fit”. The class is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The class uses chairs to do the sitting exercises and some are done while standing by your chair for support if needed. Stretching and toning exercises are done using hand weights, rubber balls, and sponge balls. It is a good 45-minute workout. Also, a women’s pool playing time is offered at 9:30 a.m. Several exciting rounds of 8-ball pool are played.  At 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class, line dancing class participates continue to get some more exercise while swooshing around the floor. Afternoon brings in card players, bridge games, and pool/snooker shooters.

        Tuesday, May 24 – Another exercise class, along with some dance moves is offered in the “Zumba with Angie” class. This class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance music. It will give you a good workout. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

        Wednesday, May 25 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women’s pool start having fun at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep up with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta, and other card games are played. We will honor our May birthdays and all those 80 and over participants at 2:00 p.m. Come help us celebrate!

         Thursday, May 26 – Zumba movers get the fun going at 10:30 a.m. again for some fast zooming to some jazzy tunes. They can work up quite a sweat by the end of the class. Starting around 1:00 p.m. canasta and bridge players start dealing out their cards. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to join the fun competition. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night musicians start tuning up at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.

         Friday, May 27 – Friday morning activities start off with exercise class, pool playing for women, and a painting class at 9:30 a.m. You can bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the class. Line dancers start their routines at 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class. Afternoon card games begin around 12:30 p.m. except for duplicate bridge, which begins at 12:15 p.m.  Also, a puzzle is always out on the table waiting for a piece to be found.


         Last weeks reported winners in social bridge were: Lynn Fent, 1st, and Connie Mennen, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry 1st. and Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 2nd. The pool tournament champion for last week was Frank Berry.
