The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
offers many fun activities for people 50 years and older. Check out your Senior
Center today! Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to
4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or
call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of
events.
Monday, May 16 – You can have fun even in an exercise
class. The members of the free “Sit n ‘Be Fit” exercise class have a good time
getting together and getting in shape. The class is offered every Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The class uses chairs to do the sitting
exercises and some are done while standing by your chair for support if needed.
Stretching and toning exercises are done using hand weights, rubber balls, and
sponge balls. It is a good 45-minute workout. Also, a women’s pool playing time
is offered at 9:30 a.m. Several exciting rounds of 8-ball pool are played. At 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class, line
dancing class participates continue to get some more exercise while swooshing
around the floor. Afternoon brings in card players, bridge games, and
pool/snooker shooters.
Tuesday, May 17 – “Zumba with Angie” is a fun dance/exercise
class that will get you moving. This class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays
at 10:30 a.m. The exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance music. It
will give you a good workout. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide on types
allowed. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate
bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that
includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the
afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone
wins a prize!
Wednesday, May 18 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise
class and women’s pool start having fun at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after
the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep up
with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta, and other
card games are played. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. You are
invited to join the fun competition.
Thursday, May 19 –Zumba movers get the fun
going at 10:30 a.m. again for some fast zooming to some jazzy tunes. They can
work up quite a sweat by the end of the class. Starting around 1:00 p.m.
canasta and bridge players start dealing out their cards. Bingo has a guest
caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night
musicians start tuning up at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to
entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in
by everyone and served during the evening.
Friday,
May 20 – The fun begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning with exercise class, pool
playing for women, and a painting class. You can bring your painting or
crafting supplies and share your skills with the class. Line dancers start
their routines at 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class. Afternoon card games
begin around 12:30 p.m. except for duplicate bridge, which begins at 12:15 p.m.
Also, a puzzle is always out on the
table waiting for a piece to be found.
Last weeks reported winners for duplicate
bridge were: Betty Lowrey and Patricia Logan 1st. and Lionel Raff
and Al Perry, 2nd. Winning partners for the second day of duplicate
bridge playing were: Betty Lowrey and Al Perry, 1st; and Carl
Provence and Gay Lynn Bullock, 2nd. The pool tournament champion for last week was Larry Leonard.
