Check Out Your Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center deserves checking out by everyone of the age of 50 and over. You are invited to come participate in any of the various activities offered at the Senior Center, such as; exercise class, line dancing, bridge, canasta, and other card games, Zumba class, guitar lessons, bingo, painting and crafting class, pool and snooker, puzzles, movies and musical entertainment. There is no cost to enjoy any of these activities, so come check it out. It is your Center. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a November calendar of events when you stop by. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.

        Monday, Nov. 17 – If it is time for you to get up and get some exercise try out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The reason for the name, Sit ‘n Be Fit, is because everyone has a chair to use for some sitting and stretching exercises and to use for stability while also doing some standing, limbering up exercises. Stretching bands, rubber bouncing balls, sponge balls, and wooden dowel sticks are all used for various exercises that help with your coordination and flexibility. Or, if exercise is not for you, there is women’s pool playing time and a painting/crafting class that meets at the same time of morning. The women pool players play several rounds of 8-ball while enjoying the social time with each other. The painting/crafting class gets together to share their creative ideas. You can bring your art supplies or a craft project and join the good time. At 10:30 a.m. seniors can come try their footwork out to some country music during the line dancing class. Beginners to more advance dancers are all welcome. They have a good and invigorating time. Later, during the afternoon games of bridge, canasta, pool/snooker, and jig saw puzzle solving are popular.

        Tuesday, Nov. 18 – Wii bowling is a fun and popular activity to participate in on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can Zumba to some Latin class. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

         Wednesday, Nov. 19 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers and women pool players use the Center for a good workout and fun competition beginning at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. In the afternoon games of canasta and other card games are played. An afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a drama titled, “Belle.”

         Thursday, Nov. 20 – It is time to Wii bowl and Zumba again. The doors open at 9:30 a.m. so you can bowl then and at 10:30 a.m. learn to Zumba with Angie. During the afternoon, try a game of canasta. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will take place. Senior men and women pool players are welcome to participate. Bring your own pool stick or use one from the Center and join the fun competition. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. For the evening, musicians tune up their instruments to make some good toe-tappin country music, that starts at 6:00 p.m. Come enjoy the music!

        Friday, Nov. 21 –Friday mornings consist of; Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s 8-ball pool, and painting/crafting class, all beginning at 9:30 a.m. And at 10:30 a.m. line dancing class members move to the music. After lunch, cards are brought out for afternoon games of canasta, and pool balls for rounds of pool/snooker.


         Game champions announced for last week were:  for social bridge; Lynn Fent, 1st and Beverly Dale, 2nd; and duplicate bridge winning partners; Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Norma Burk and Treca Baer, 2nd. Winner of the pool tournament last week was Fred Seaman. Wii bowling champion for the week was Lee Arnswald.

Defensive Driving Class Scheduled

       The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a defensive driving class provided by Meridian Technology Center on Monday, November 10 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A few spaces are left to sign up. Check with your vehicle insurance provider and see if you can qualify for a discount by taking the driving class. Also, on Friday, November 14 at 12:00 noon birthdays for the month will be celebrated with a pot-luck luncheon. The entrĂ©e will be turkey, so bring a food dish to compliment the turkey or pay $3/person. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

         Wednesday, Oct. 29 – Wednesday morning starts at 9:30 a.m. with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and the women pool players having a good time. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. In the afternoon games of canasta and other cards games are played. An afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a Halloween classic comedy, titled, “Hocus Pocus.”

         Thursday, Oct. 30 – Arrive at 9:30 a.m. and bowl a couple games using the Wii system then stay and learn to Zumba with Angie, which begins at 10:30 a.m. During the afternoon, try a game of canasta, or some pool/snooker playing. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Musicians tune up their instruments to make some good toe-tappin country music, that starts at 6:00 p.m. Come enjoy the music!

There will be special Halloween treats for refreshments at 2:00 p.m. and seniors are encouraged to dress up in a costume or Halloween shirt.

Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Murna Raff and Sandy Boepple, 2nd. Winner of the pool tournament last week was Mike Bays. 

Free Guitar Lessons at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is offering free guitar lessons. The women pool players challenge their minds by playing several friendly, competitive rounds of 8-ball and would love for more players to come and join them. Also, the painting/crafting class would like for more members to join their group. You can bring your art supplies or a craft project and socialize while sharing your artistic skills. At 10:30 a.m. seniors can come try their footwork out to some country music during the line dancing class. Beginners to more advance dancers are all welcome. They have a good and invigorating time. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will take place. Senior men and women pool players are welcome to participate.
