Stillwater Senior Activity Center Keeps You Active



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a great place for participants, 50 and over, to come and keep active. Free activities offered at the Center includes; card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians. Also, a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
Time is drawing near to get your income taxes prepared. A free AARP income tax service is located at the Stillwater Public Library. They will be there through April 18. The hours are: Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a first come first serve basis.
Monday, April 3 – The free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class is a good start to get you active. The class is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercises are done while in a chair, but some are also done while standing by your chair. Stretchy bands and bouncing balls are utilized in to the regular exercise routine. Women pool players also come in at 9:30 a.m. and play several rounds of active 8-ball competition. They welcome new players to come enjoy the fun. After exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot across the floor to some swinging country tunes. Afternoon brings in the canasta and bridge card players. Also, the pool and snooker table are open for free play.
Tuesday, April 4 – “Zumba with Angie”, is another free exercise class that is offered at the Center every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30. This exercise/dance class will get you moving to some Latin American type music. You will probably work up a good sweat while enjoying the fun routines.  Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on shoes allowed. Afternoon games include canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most card games start around 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New duplicate bridge players should call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoon. Pool and snooker playing are popular, also. Bingo is called at 2 p.m. It’s a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, April 5 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers and the women pool players get active again starting at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers get together to do some quick stepping. In the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved. Remember, birthday cake and ice cream will be served at 2 p.m.
Thursday, April 6 – Guitar lessons continue at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. Zumba dancers begin moving to some jazzy tunes. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players and pool players, at 1 p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to get ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6 p.m. Come enjoy the music and snacks that participants bring to share. 
Friday, April 7 – Friday mornings become active after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. You can choose to take part in the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, or a painting and crafting class. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and instructional skills with each other. Spring is a good time to start a new art or crafting project while socializing with the other artists. Canasta, duplicate bridge, pool and snooker are played in the afternoon. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Last weeks reported social bridge winners were: Connie Mennem, 1st; and Thea Pratt, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners were: Jane Anderson and Lucy Robinson 1st; and Wilma Wehr and Sandy Boepple, 2nd. During the second day of duplicate bridge playing, the winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Betty Lowrey and Camille Johnston, 2nd. The previous week, duplicate bridge winners were reported; Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 2nd. A pool tournament was played and the champion was Jay Butler.

Spring In to the Stillwater Senior Activity Center



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center participants, 50 and over, are ready to spring in to the change of seasons and the extra hour of daylight by getting out more and taking part in their Senior Center. After taking part in the many various activities offered, there is still plenty of daylight left to take a walk outside of the Center on the walking trail in Couch Park. Free activities offered includes; card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians.
