Happy New Year!

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed on Monday, January 2 for New Years. The Center will start a new year of activities on Tuesday, January 3. Many fun activities are offered for seniors 50 and older. Center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a January calendar of events.

Monday, January 2 – Center is closed.

Tuesday, January 3 – Start your New Year’s resolution to get in better shape with the free Sit’n Be Fit exercise class that meets every Tuesday and Thursday of the week at 9:30 a.m. This class is a 45-minute workout where chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

Wednesday, January 4 – Women’s pool time is a lively activity that gets under way at 9:30 a.m. The women enjoy the friendly competition at the tables. Wii interactive games and ping pong are also available for participation. Afternoon games that usually begin at 1:00 p.m. include; canasta, dominoes, pool, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and puzzle solving. The movie, “Seven days in Utopia”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, January 5 – Come stretch out those stiff muscles with the free Sit’n Be Fit exercise class that meets again at 9:30 a.m. Afterwards, Wii Fit is available to use. This is an interactive game system that challenges and can help improve your balance. At 1:00 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. where everyone is a winner. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

Friday, January 6 – Friday morning activities consists of women’s pool and a painting class beginning at 9:30 a.m. There is exercise equipment, Wii games, and a ping pong table all available for use. In the afternoon, games include: canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and a puzzle is out waiting for someone to find the missing pieces.

Last weeks winners of duplicate bridge were: Murna Raff and Betty Abenante, 1st; and Betty Lowrey, Donna Beason, Lionel Raff and Seham Hadi; all tied for 2nd. Social bridge winners for the week were: Lynn Fent, 1st, and Joanne Barrick, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners were: Gail Marrow and Betty Shields.

Holiday Closings next week!

Burk, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Orlean Hunter, 1st; and Ina Lee Abels, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners were: Murna Raff and Betty Abenante, 1st; and Betty Lowrey, Donna Beason, Lionel Raff and Seham Hadi; all tied for 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners for last week were: Maxine Morgan and Allen Shields. A men’s in-house pool tournament was held and Leon Brown was the champion.

Monday, December 19 – Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and women’s pool and the painting class get under way. The women pool players enjoy some fun competition. The painters also share some good times while getting creative with their paints and canvases. Rubber Bridge, canasta, dominoes, puzzle solving, snooker and pool are among the afternoon activities that start at 1:00 p.m.

Winners of the coed in-house pool tournament were: Gary Patchell, 1st and Betty Shields, 2nd.

Chestine Crane won the Texas Hold’em winner’s game for the month. Winners of the coed in-house pool tournament were: Gary Patchell, 1st and Betty Shields, 2nd.

December Birthday Lunch on Friday!

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold the December pot-luck luncheon on Friday, December 9 at 12:00 noon. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person. A group from the Community Singers will be here to entertain with some carols. The Center offers many fun activities for seniors 50 and older. Senior men enjoyed the in-house pool tournament recently held at the City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center.

Monday, December 5 – The women pool players sharpen their skills at the tables starting at 9:30 a.m. They have a great time and enjoy a lot of laughs, come join the fun. Also, an oil painting class begins then with painters who bring their supplies with them and have a good time together getting creative. A men’s in-house pool tournament was held last week and Jack Ventris took the honors of winner.
