March Birthday Luncheon this week at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold the March birthday potluck luncheon on Friday, March 8 at 12:00 noon. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and enjoy the fellowship and good food.  Also, the Center is a place to come receive free income tax help. Trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers will be at the Center to provide the service through April 15. Their hours are Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. No appointments are necessary; it is a first come first serve basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a March calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join.         Monday, March 4 – Women pool players get out their pool sticks and rack up the balls for some good times and laughs starting at 9:30 a.m.. Also, a painting class comes in at the same time. They bring their own supplies and share each others ideas and expertise. Tax help is also scheduled, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00. There is also exercise equipment available that includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games such as: bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, March 5 – Exercise is good for you, so come check it out for yourself. A free exercise class is held every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9:30 to about 10:15 a.m. The Sit ‘n Be Fit class exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls are all utilized during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. Also, a ping pong table is available for use. Income tax assistance continues during the morning. In the afternoon, there is a choice of games that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed. A men’s pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. Join the fun!

         Wednesday, March 6 – Women pool players practice their 8-ball strategies beginning at 9:30 a.m.  Come join the fun! A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment is available, too. Tax preparers work on taxes 9:30 a.m. to 12:00. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The drama movie, “Sparkle” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, March 7 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class meets again at 9:30 a.m. for toning and stretching. After class, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. Also, a group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. At 1:00 p.m. afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving, are played. A men’s in-house pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. Come join the exciting competition. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. A lot of laughs are always shared during this time. Don’t miss out on the good times. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and tuned up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!

All begins at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or Wii player. At 12:00 noon the March birthday luncheon will be held. Enjoy lunch and make some new friends. After lunch, check out the afternoon games of cards, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, pool and snooker. Also, there is a puzzle to solve.

          Last weeks bridge winners were: Jean Herndon, 1st; and Wally Reynolds, 2nd.  Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Betty Abenante and Seham El Sherif, 1st; and Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 2nd. The Texas Hold’em group met and the champion for the week was: Maxine Morgan.                                      A coed pool tournament was held and the champion was Frank Berry.

On Friday, February 22 at 10:00 a.m. the Center pool players will host the Ponca City Senior Center pool players to an 8-ball pool tournament. Tax Assistance underway at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be providing a place to come receive free income tax help. Trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers will be at the Center to provide service from February 4 through April 15. Their hours will be Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary; it is a first come first serve basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. Also, on Tuesday, February 12, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Home Call Home Health will be at the Center to check blood pressure and blood sugar for seniors. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a February calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Wayne Vinson won the men’s pool tournament last week. The Texas Hold’em group met and the winners for the week were: Betty Shields and Shirley Crockett.
