Stillwater Senior Activity Center Holds Seasonal Luncheon



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold its Seasonal Luncheon Celebration on Friday, May 12 at 12 p.m. for participants. This will be a catered lunch of chicken strips and side dishes. Cost is $2/person and tickets will be sold at the door, day of the event. Line dancing and duplicate bridge will not be held the day of the luncheon so that preparations can get underway. Also, other card games and pool playing will begin at 2 p.m. The Center wants to welcome all seniors, 50 and over to come participate in the various activities offered during the week. Activities include; card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, a painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians. Also, a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Please note there will be new summer hours for music night. During the months of May, June, July and August music night will meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. Times will remain at 6 to 8:30 p.m.  
Monday, May 8 – A free exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. Exercises are done while in a chair, but some are also done while standing by your chair. Stretchy bands and bouncing balls are utilized in the regular exercise routine. Women’s pool playing is also another fun activity to check out. They meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m., also. The women welcome new players to come enjoy the fun games of 8-ball. After exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot across the floor to some swinging country tunes. Afternoon brings in the canasta and bridge card players. Also, the pool and snooker table are open for free play.
Tuesday, May 9 – Zumba with Angie, is a more intense exercise/dance workout. This free class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. It will get you moving to some Latin American type music. Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on shoes allowed. Afternoon games include canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most card games start around 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New duplicate bridge players should call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoon. Pool and snooker playing are popular, also. Bingo is called at 2 p.m. It’s a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, May 10 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group and women pool players arrive ready to have a good time. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping to country tunes. In the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday, May 11 – Guitar strumming can be heard after 9:30 a.m. as students take their free lessons. Then at 10:30 a.m. Zumba dancers begin moving to some jazzy tunes. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players and pool players, at 1 p.m. Bingo usually has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to get ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6 p.m. Come enjoy the music and snacks that participants bring to share. 
Friday, May 12 – Friday mornings are busy with activities that include; Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting/crafting class that all take place at 9:30 a.m. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and instructional skills with each other. Come and join them. No line dancing or duplicate bridge will take place due to the luncheon. Remember, the catered luncheon will start at 12:00 noon. Bring your appetite and enjoy the celebration. Card games and pool playing will start at 2 p.m. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.

Stillwater Senior Activity Center Will Celebrate April Birthdays



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center participants will celebrate birthdays for the month of April on Wednesday, April 26 at 2 p.m. Cake and ice cream will be served. If you are 50 and over you are welcome to join us and become a member of the Center. Activities to participate in include; card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, a painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians. The deadline for getting your taxes prepared free by the AARP income tax service is Tuesday, April 18. They are located at the Stillwater Public Library. The hours are: Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a first come first serve basis.

Time is drawing near to get your income taxes prepared. A free AARP income tax service is located at the Stillwater Public Library. They will be there through April 18. The hours are: Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a first come first serve basis.
