Start your fall out at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a pleasant place to spend the fall season. The leaves are falling outside in the park and many activities are happening inside the Center. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up an October calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. If you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join or leave your name and phone number. Unfortunately, flu season is also upon us. A flu clinic, sponsored by HomeCall, is scheduled here at the Center for Monday, October 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. No early signup, it is a first come, first serve basis. Also, bring your Medicare card for no charge.

        Monday, Sept. 30 – Monday morning activities include; women’s pool table time and an oil painting group get together. These activities get under way beginning at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players have a fun time challenging each other in games of 8-ball.  And the artist’s bring in their own supplies and get creative and discuss their ideas with each other. Other crafters can bring their projects and join the group, also. The Center has an exercise room with a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight set for senior use, too. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, Oct. 1 – Enjoy a walk in the park or come inside and join the free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit. The exercises are low impact. Some are done while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving.  Please note: the Veteran’s Affairs representative will no longer be coming to the Senior Center. He will now be at the Workforce Oklahoma, Stillwater office at 3006 E. 6th St., from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

         Wednesday, Oct. 2 – Practice your pool shots with the women pool players after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and pool/snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a missing piece. The dramatic movie, “The Great Gatsby” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Oct. 3 –Join the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and get in shape. This class is offered at the Center from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  After class, Wii games, ping pong, or line dancing are available. Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Try a game of canasta or pool/snooker and at 2:00 p.m. join in the fun time of bingo.

         Friday, Oct. 4 – Women pool players and the artists arrive again after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. The women enjoy several rounds of 8-ball and the artists get creative on their canvases. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Afternoon games include: canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker.

          Champions for various games held last week were: social bridge winners; Treca Baer, 1st; and Mary Thomas, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners; Camille Johnston and Meg Kletke, 1st; and Lucy Robinson and Penny Sizemore, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champion for the past week was: Chestine Crane.

Senior Center closed for maintenance


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will close early, at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26 and remain closed Friday, September 27 for maintenance. Also, music night will not be held on the 26th.  Regular hours will resume on Monday, September 30. Health presentation at the Senior Activity Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a health presentation titled; “Journey Through Health”, provided by Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, on Thursday, September 19 at 10:30 a.m. This program will demonstrate how the dietary guidelines can have a powerful impact throughout the body. Everyone is welcome to attend. No signups required. Senior coed pool players will travel to the Ponca City Senior Center for a final pool tournament on Friday, September 20 starting at 1:00 p.m. Signup now if you are interested in playing in the tournament. Other activities include card games, pool and snooker playing, bingo, an afternoon movie, exercise, and painting classes. Some are done while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving.  A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, Sept. 18 – After the doors open at 9:30 a.m. women pool players start filing in to practice their shooting skills.  Senior women are welcome to practice along with them. So, join the fun. Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The comedy movie, “Here Comes the Boom” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Sept. 19 – It is time to tone up, by joining a free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. This class is offered at the Center from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  After class, Wii games, ping pong, or line dancing are available. Come check it out. Also, at 10:30 the “Journey Through Health” program will be presented. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Join in a game of canasta and wild bingo games at 2:00 p.m. A men’s pool tournament will be held starting at 1:00 p.m. All senior men are welcome to try their hand at the pool tables. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 for a night of country music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

         Friday, Sept. 20 – The pool tables are occupied by the women again and the painting and crafting group get together at the same time starting at 9:30 a.m. Also, exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or a Wii game system.  The 1:00 p.m. coed pool tournament will begin at the Ponca City Senior Center. Good luck to the Stillwater Senior Activity Center pool players. Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em, pool, snooker, and dominoes.

A busy week at the Senior Activity Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will have a busy week coming up with the usual activities of card games, pool and snooker playing, bingo, an afternoon movie, exercise and painting classes. Added to those activities will be blood pressure checks on Wednesday, September 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. These will be provided by Northern Oklahoma College, Division of Nursing students. No appointment is needed. Also, on Friday, September 13 at 12:00 noon a birthday pot-luck luncheon will be held. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Join in a game of canasta and wild bingo games at 2:00 p.m. A men’s pool tournament will be held starting at 1:00 p.m. All senior men are welcome to try their hand at the pool tables.
