Happy 4th from the Senior Center

    The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Wednesday for the Fourth of July.  Seniors 50 and older are welcome to check out the fun times. An all day defensive driving class will be coming up on Friday, July 27. Call or come by for more information or to sign up. Center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a July calendar of events.

        Monday, July 2 – Pool balls will be dropping in to the pockets during women’s pool time and paint brushes will be swooshing across a canvas during a painting class starting at 9:30 a.m. The women have a good competitive time at the pool tables and the painting class members bring their own painting supplies and share their creative ideas. Afternoon activities get going around 1:00 p.m. These include; rubber bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool and snooker.

        Tuesday, July 3 – Get your body moving with the free 45-minute exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit. It is held every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Texas Hold’em, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Thursday, July 5 – Limber up with the Sit’n Be Fit exercise class which gets moving at 9:30 a.m.  It will give you a good 45 minute workout. Afterwards, Wii Fit is available to use. This is an interactive game system that challenges and can help improve your balance. At 1:00 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

         Friday, July 6 – The women pool players and the painting class come out again at 9:30 a.m.   There is exercise equipment, Wii games, and a ping pong table all available for use, too. Afternoon games include: canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and a puzzle is out waiting for someone to find the missing pieces.

        Last weeks winners of rubber bridge were: Mallory Owen, 1st ; and Deloris Sanders, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Shirley Crockett, 1st and Ina Lee Abels, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Gay Lynn Bullock and Martin Bullock, 1st; and Murna and Lionel Raff, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners last week were: Lisa Parcell and Allen Shields.

Summer Heat? Beat it here!

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers a cool place to beat the heat while enjoying various fun activities. Seniors 50 and older are welcome to come check it out and join in the fun, too. Afterwards, Wii Fit is available to use. This is an interactive game system that challenges and can help improve your balance. At 1:00 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. Previous week winner of a coed pool tournament held was Ron Thomas. Last weeks winner of another coed pool tournament was Larry Leonard.

Stay Cool at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers a cool place to spend a hot day. Seniors 50 and older can enjoy a good variety of activities.
