Fun and Games at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is the place to come for fun and games galore! Seniors 50 and older are welcome to come check it out. An all day defensive driving class will be coming up on July 27. Call or come by for more information or to sign up. Center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

        Monday, June 25 – Women’s pool playing and a painting class begin the fun at 9:30 a.m. The women have a good competitive time at the pool tables and the painting class members bring their own painting supplies and share their creative ideas. Afternoon activities get going around 1:00 p.m. These include; rubber bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool and snooker.

        Tuesday, June 26 – You can even have fun while exercising. Come try the free 45-minute exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit. It is held every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Texas Hold’em, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, June 27 – The women pool players are at it again having a good time and lots of laughs, starting at 9:30 a.m. Wii interactive games and ping pong are also available for participation. Afternoon games that usually begin at 1:00 p.m. include; canasta, dominoes, pool, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and puzzle solving. The movie, “Joyful Noise”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.  

         Thursday, June 28 – Limber up with the Sit’n Be Fit exercise class which gets moving at 9:30 a.m.  It will give you a good 45 minute workout. Afterwards, Wii Fit is available to use. This is an interactive game system that challenges and can help improve your balance. At 1:00 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

         Friday, June 29 – The sound of pool balls dropping in the pockets starts at 9:30 a.m. as the women take aim with their pool sticks. The painting class also gets together again at the same time.  There is exercise equipment, Wii games, and a ping pong table all available for use, too. Afternoon games include: canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and a puzzle is out waiting for someone to find the missing pieces.

        Last weeks winners of rubber bridge were: Penny Sizemore, 1st ; and Treca Baer, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Pauline Poe, 1st and Lynn Fent, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Murna and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Laurie Schlobohm and Lucy Robinson, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winner of the week was: Roy Parcell. Previous week winner of a men’s pool tournament was Ron Thomas.
