Closed for New Years Day

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Tuesday, January 1 for New Years. The Center offers many fun activities to keep participants, age 50 and over, busy. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a January calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join.

        Monday, December 31 – The Center will be open regular hours today. Women’s pool time will take place along with the painting group getting together at 9:30 a.m. Afternoon activities start around 1:00 p.m. which include: bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, January 1 – The Center is closed.

         Wednesday, January 2 – Regular hours resume Wednesday morning. The women pool players warm up their pool sticks again at 9:30 a.m.  A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment which includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine are available, also. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The movie, “New Year’s Eve,” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, January 3 – Work off those extra holiday calories at 9:30 a.m. with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. Afterwards, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. Also, a group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. At 1:00 p.m. afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving, get started. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. A lot of laughs are always shared during this time. Don’t miss out on the good times. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and tuned up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!

         Friday, January 4 – The women pool players and the painting group meet up again starting at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or Wii player. During the afternoon enjoy games of cards, pool, snooker, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and puzzle solving. A men’s pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. Come join the competition.      

          Last weeks winners of bridge were: Janetta Loper, 1st; and Norma Burk, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were, Murna Raff and Seham El Sharef and Lucy Robinson and Penny Sizemore; all tied for 1st. Texas Hold’em champion for the week was: Maxine Morgan.

Enjoy the Holiday season at the Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center seniors enjoyed decorating the Center for the holidays. The Center offers many fun activities to keep participants, age 50 and over, busy.         Monday, December 17 – Women’s pool time is a fun time to come in and practice your pool shots and have some friendly conversations. Also, if you like to paint, bring your art supplies and join the painting group. These activities begin at 9:30 a.m. Afternoon activities start around 1:00 p.m. which include: bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, December 18 – Holidays are coming up along with the extra calories so now is a good time to start your exercise plan by joining the free exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit offered at the Center starting at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, dominoes, canasta, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

December Birthday's Celebrated at the center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate participates December birthdays with a pot-luck luncheon on Friday, December 14 at 12 noon. Come share the fellowship and delicious food. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person. The Center offers many fun activities to keep participants, age 50 and over, busy. They enjoy sharing ideas with each other and putting them to canvas. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or Wii player. At 12:00 noon the pot-luck birthday luncheon will begin. During the afternoon enjoy games of cards, pool, snooker, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

         Last weeks winners of bridge were: Shirley Crockett, 1st; and Wally Reynolds, 2nd. Duplicate bridge did not meet last week. Texas Hold’em champions for the week were: Maxine Morgan and Lula Mae Davis. A men’s pool tournament was held and Wayne Vinson was the winner.

Monday, December 3: Pool balls start falling into pockets at 9:30 a.m. as the women get out their pool sticks. A painting group arrives about the same time and brings paints and brushes to show some creative skills on canvases. Afternoon activities start around 1 p.m. including bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday, December 4: The month of December has begun which can mean extra calories with holiday treats so think about a free exercise class called Sit ‘n Be Fit offered at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are completed while sitting and some are executed while standing by a chair. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and pingpong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as duplicate bridge, dominoes, canasta, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker, and pool. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs visits from 1 to 2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork pertaining to veterans assistance. No appointment is needed.

A men’s pool tournament was also held with the winner of Frank Berry.

A Vehicle Accident Prevention Class at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will host a Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention class on Monday, November 12 from 9:45 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m. This will be presented by Meridian Technology Center. This is the same defensive driving class that has been presented here at the Center before. You should check with your motor vehicle insurance provider to see if your certificate, received upon completion of the class, qualifies you for a discount. There will be a lunch break where you can leave for an hour, or you can bring a sack lunch and keep it in the Center’s refrigerator. November Birthdays Celebrated at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate the Center participant’s November birthdays with a pot-luck luncheon on Friday, November 9 at 12:00 noon. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person. This is a great time to share good food and fine fellowship. A sign-up sheet is now out for a Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention class coming up on November 12, 9:45 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m. here at the Center. This will be provided by Meridian Technology Center and is the same class as the Defensive Driving class they have done before. It has just been given an undated name. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Neck and Shoulder Massages at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be providing a neck/shoulder massage opportunity by licensed massage therapist, Paul Hirsch on Wednesday, October 17 at 1:00 p.m. This will be on a first come first serve basis. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

The movie, “Larry Crowne”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Sept. 27 –Tone up with the free Sit’n Be Fit class which meets at 9:30 a.m. Afterwards, Wii Fit is available to use. This is an interactive game system that challenges and can help improve your balance. At 1:00 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

         Friday, Sept. 28 – Friday morning activities include women’s pool playing time and a painting class that begin at 9:30 a.m. Come check it out! Exercise equipment, Wii games, and a ping pong table are available for use, too. Afternoon games include: canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, dominoes, and a puzzle to work. Coed pool tournament starts at 1:00 p.m. Come join the fun competition.

        Last weeks winners of bridge were: Treca Baer, 1st; and Barbara Geiser, 2nd. Other bridge winners were: Lynn Fent, 1st and Ina Lee Abels, 2nd. Relax at the Senior Center this week

       The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will offer a relaxing neck/shoulder massage on September 18 at 2:30 p.m.; on a first come first served basis. These will be provided by Paul Hirsch, a licensed massage therapist. Seniors, 50 and older are welcome to join the Center. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a September calendar of events. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join.

        Monday, Sept. 17 – Women’s pool playing and oil/acrylic painting are two activities going on during Monday morning starting at 9:30 a.m. The senior women get busy at the pool tables for some fun competition and fellowship. Bring your own pool stick or use one furnished by the Center and have some fun! Also, the painting group gets together show off their creative side. You will need to bring your own supplies, but it is a good time to socialize and share your ideas with each other. Afternoon activities start around 1:00 p.m. which include: bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, 1st; and Murna Raff, Betty Lowrey, Penny Sizemore, Lucy  Robinson, Lew Taylor, and Ina Lee Abels; all had a three way tie for 2nd . Texas Hold’em winners of the week were: Betty Shields and Roy Parcell. In the pool news; Larry Leonard won a men’s 8-ball pool tournament, Jack Ventris won the 9-ball tournament and in the tournament of the Stillwater Senior Center pool players vs. Ponca City Senior Center, Stillwater reluctantly gave up the traveling trophy to Ponca City with a score of Ponca City – 22 and Stillwater – 14.

September Birthday Luncheon this week!

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will provide a busy week for seniors, 50 and older. Special events coming up will be; blood pressure checks on Tuesday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. to around 3:00 p.m. and September birthdays will be celebrated with a pot-luck luncheon on Friday, September 14 at 12:00 noon. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and enjoy the good food and fellowship. Center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. Closed for Labor Day

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Monday, September 3 in observance of Labor Day. Also, on Friday, September 7 starting at 9:30 a.m. the senior pool players will challenge the Ponca City senior pool players in a tournament. This is always a fun tournament, so come be a part of the fun. Seniors, 50 and older are welcome to join the many activities offered at the Center. Afternoon games include: canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, dominoes, and a puzzle to work. At 1:00 p.m. a men’s pool tournament will be held.

        Last weeks winners of bridge were: Penny Sizemore, 1st; and Jane Anderson, 2nd. Other bridge winners were: Linda Jamison, 1st and Pauline Poe, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff; 1st; and Betty Abenante and Murna Raff were 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners of the week were: Allen Shields and Lula Mae Davis. Frank Berry won a 9 ball pool tournament that the men played.
