Defensive Driving Class at the Senior Activity Center

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is the place to beat the summer heat and stay cool while playing various games of fun. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a July calendar of events.

Monday, July 11 – Pool balls will be racked up starting at 9:30 a.m. as the women enjoy a morning of pool. The oil painters will also be gathering and letting their creative juices flow. The afternoon activities begin at 1:00 p.m. and include rubber bridge, canasta, dominoes and much more.

Tuesday, July 12 – Sit ‘n Be Fit free exercise class begins at 9:30 a.m. This is a 45-minute workout where chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar checks will be available at 12:30 p.m.Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

Wednesday, July 13– The women get their pool sticks out again at 9:30 a.m. for a friendly pool tournament. Wii interactive games are also available. Activities for the afternoon begin at 1:00 p.m. These include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, Mexican Train dominoes, and puzzle solving. The comedy, “Life as We Know It” will be shown at 2pm.

Thursday, July 14 – You should check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class that meets at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, Wii games and ping pong is available for some fun. You can join in afternoon games of canasta, social bridge, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, July 15 – Popular cool activities for Friday morning are women’s pool and the painting class. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon games include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch. A Defensive Driving class will be offered today. The class starts at 9:45 a.m. and goes until 4:30 p.m. with a break for lunch. This class allows you to get a discount on your car insurance. Sign up today!

Last weeks winners of duplicate bridge winning partners were: Murna Raff and Gerrie Koelsch, 1st; and Lionell Raff and Lourene Opdyke, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Larry Simmons, 1st; and Ellie Pinney, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners for last week was Dollie McClary.

Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. Monday, June 27 – The week gets off to a fun start at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning. Women’s pool is a fun time for the ladies to practice their pool shoots and enjoy some friendly socializing. Also, a painting group comes in with their canvases and supplies of choice ready to get creative. Afternoon activities get going around 1:00 p.m. These activities include: bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, pitch, and jig saw puzzle solving.
