Stillwater Senior Activity Center Survives the Holidays



City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is back to regular hours and activities since the holidays are over. You can enjoy the many activities offered for seniors 50 and over such as; exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, card and bridge games, pool and snooker playing including tournaments, bingo, and a music night with country tunes. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
Monday, Jan. 9 – Time to work off those holiday snack splurges? Try the Center’s free exercise class, Sit ‘n Be Fit that starts at 9:30 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Chairs are set up that you use for support and sitting as you do the stretching and toning exercises. Stretchy bands, hand weights, and sponge balls are all incorporated in to the routine to give you a good 40-minute workout. After the Sit ‘n Be Fit class you can stay and get some more fun exercise in the line dancing class. They start their boot scoot’n at 10:30 a.m. Come join the fun! Afternoon activities begin around 1:00 p.m. with games of canasta, bridge, pool and snooker, and jig saw puzzle solving.
Tuesday, Jan. 10 – “Zumba with Angie”, is another free exercise class offered. It meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. This is a quick moving dance/exercise class done mostly to Latin American music. Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games played include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most card games start around 1:00 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New players of duplicate bridge should call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoon, also. Bingo is played at 2 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, Jan. 11 – Have you started your New Year’s resolution to get more exercise yet?  Why not check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players also burn off some calories while circling the pool tables. After the exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. line dancers keep moving and stepping as they keep time with the swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1:00 p.m. Also, the pool/snooker tables are open for play. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.  
Thursday, Jan. 12 – Guitar lessons continue as students practice new tunes starting at 9:30 a.m.  Zumba dancers begin moving to some jazzy tunes at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players at1p.m. A pool tournament will be held starting at 1 p.m. Bring you pool stick or use one from the Center and enjoy your afternoon with some friendly competition Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to get ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6 p.m. Come enjoy the music and snacks that participants bring to share. 
            Friday, Jan. 13 – It is a good day to come on down to the Senior Activity Center and participate in the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool playing, or a painting class. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and skills with each other. All the fun begins after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Afternoon duplicate bridge players arrive at 12:15 p.m. ready to play some serious cards. Canasta card games start around 1 p.m. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Due to the holidays, no bridge was played the last two weeks.

Holiday Closings for Stillwater Senior Activity Center



       City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Monday, December 26 for the Christmas holiday and also, Monday, January 2 for the New Year’s holiday. We wish everyone happy holidays! After we come back from the Christmas break, on Wednesday, December 28 at 2:00 p.m.; participant’s December birthdays will be celebrated with cake and ice cream. Also, take note; the Thursday, December 29 music night will not meet this week. They will return the following week. Warm Crowd at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        Monday, Dec. 19 –The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class members warm up together starting after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. The free exercise class will warm you up every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. A good workout of stretching and toning exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, stretchy bands, and sponge balls are all utilized in the 45 minute routine. Also, at 9:30 a.m. there is some fun competition going on around the pool tables as the women 8-ball pool players get together. They welcome new players to join in the fun. After the exercise class, you can get some more exercise by participating in the line-dancing class starting at 10:30 a.m. The dancers love to do some boot scootin’ to country music. In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m. canasta and social bridge players arrive ready to try their hands with the cards, hoping for a win. If you would like to play social bridge and have not played here before, please call the Center ahead of time so the number of places at each table can be arranged. Also, a jig saw puzzle is always out ready for a piece to be found.

         Thursday, Dec. 22 – Guitar music can be heard coming from one of the rooms at the Center as students practice their guitar lessons starting at 9:30 a.m.  Zumba dancers begin moving to some jazzy tunes at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon brings out the canasta, bridge, and pool players around 1p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with their country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.
