Stillwater Senior Activity Center Offers a Warm Place to Come



       City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a good place to come in out of the cold as the weather is beginning to change. Many activities are offered for seniors 50 and over to participate in such as; exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, card and bridge games, pool and snooker playing including tournaments, bingo, and a music night with country tunes. Hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends.         Monday, Dec. 12 –You can warm up with the free exercise class offered at the Center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m., called Sit ‘n Be Fit. A good workout of stretching and toning exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, stretchy bands, and sponge balls are all utilized in the 45 minute routine. Also, at 9:30 a.m. there is some fun competition going on around the pool tables as the women 8-ball pool players get together. They welcome new players to join in the fun. After the exercise class, starting at 10:30 a.m., you can get some more exercise by participating in the line-dancing class. They love to do some boot scootin’ to country music. In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m. canasta and social bridge players arrive ready to try their hands with the cards, hoping for a win. If you would like to play social bridge and have not played here before, please call the Center ahead of time so the number of places at each table can be arranged. A pool tournament will be held starting at 1:00 p.m. Bring you pool stick or use one from the Center and enjoy your afternoon in some friendly competition. Also, a jig saw puzzle is always out ready for a piece to be found.
        Tuesday, Dec. 13 – If you want to really get warmed up, try the free “Zumba with Angie” class. This class meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. It is a quick moving dance/exercise class done to mostly Latin American music. Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games played include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Most card games start around 1:00 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New players of duplicate bridge should call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for all the puzzlers.
        Wednesday, Dec. 14 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group will keep you warm and toned. They meet up at 9:30 a.m. Women pool players are back again ready to have a good time and play several rounds of friendly 8-ball.  After the exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep time with the swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played.
         Thursday, Dec. 15 – Guitar players get ready to start strumming in their lessons starting at 9:30 a.m.  Zumba dancers begin moving to some jazzy tunes at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon brings out the canasta, bridge, and pool players around 1p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with their country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.
         Friday, Dec. 16 – Friday morning activities warm up starting at 9:30 a.m. These include; Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool playing, and a painting class. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and skills with each other. Afternoon duplicate bridge players arrive at 12:15 a.m. ready to play some serious cards. Canasta card games start around 1:00 p.m. Pool and snooker tables are open for games, too. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
      
         Last weeks reported winners in social bridge were: Norma Shamblin, 1st and Lynn Fent, 2nd. Lionel Raff, Camille Johnston, Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle all tied for first in duplicate bridge. The previous week, duplicate bridge winners reported were: Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 1st; and Al Perry and Betty Lowery, 2nd.
