Stillwater Senior Activity Center to Celebrate March Birthdays



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center participants, 50 and over, will celebrate March birthdays on Wednesday, March 29 at 2 p.m. Cake and ice cream will be served, so come enjoy the party! Free activities offered at the Center includes; card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians. Also, a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Time is drawing near to get your income taxes prepared. The free AARP income tax service has been moved from the Stillwater Senior Activity Center to the Stillwater Public Library. They will be there through April 18. The new hours are: Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a first come first serve basis.
Monday, March 27 – Start your week off with a free exercise class that is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercises are done while in a chair but some are also done while standing by your chair. Stretchy bands and bouncing balls are utilized in to the regular exercise routine. Women pool players also come in at 9:30 a.m. and play several rounds of friendly 8-ball competition. They welcome new players to come enjoy the fun. After exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot across the floor to some swinging country tunes. Afternoon brings in the canasta and bridge card players.
Tuesday, March 28 – If you are ready to try a more extensive exercise workout, come and try the free “Zumba with Angie” exercise/dance class every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. This is class moves mostly to Latin American type music. You will probably work up a good sweat while enjoying the fun routines.  Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on shoes allowed. Afternoon games include canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most card games start around 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New duplicate bridge players should call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoon. Bingo is called at 2 p.m. It’s a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, March 29 – Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and it is time for the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers and the women pool players to return. After the exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers get together to do some quick stepping. In the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved. Remember, birthday cake and ice cream will be served at 2 p.m.
Thursday, March 30 – Guitar lessons continue at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. Zumba dancers begin moving to some jazzy tunes. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players at 1 p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to get ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6 p.m. Come enjoy the music and snacks that participants bring to share. 
Friday, March 31 – Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m., you can choose to take part in the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, or a painting and crafting class. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and instructional skills with each other. Spring is a good time to start a new art or crafting project while socializing with the other artists. Canasta, duplicate bridge, pool and snooker are played in the afternoon. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Last weeks reported social bridge winners were: Bena Harper, 1st; and Louie Geiser, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Carl Provence and Gay Lynn Bullock, 2nd.
