Busy Week Coming Up for Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be busy this week with many activities. On Thursday, May 12, from 10-11:30 a.m., Judith Karman Bristol Hospice will sponsor a panel discussion at the Senior Center. The public is welcome to participate in conversations about, “End of Life Decisions”. Topics will be; making your wishes known to family and doctors and personalizing your Advanced Directive/DNR. Then on Friday, May 13 at 12:00 noon a catered luncheon for Center participants will take place. Barbeque meat will be the main food dish at the price of $2/person. The Senior Activity Center offers many fun activities for people 50 years and older. Check out your Center! Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends.         Monday, May 9 – A free exercise class called, “Sit n ‘Be Fit”is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The class uses chairs to do the sitting exercises and some are done while standing by your chair for support if needed. Stretching and toning exercises are done using hand weights, rubber balls, and sponge balls. It is a good 45-minute workout. Also, a women’s pool playing time is offered at 9:30 a.m. Several exciting rounds of 8-ball pool are played.  At 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class, line dancing class participates continue to get some more exercise while swooshing around the floor. Afternoon brings in card players, bridge games, and pool/snooker shooters.

        Tuesday, May 10 – “Zumba with Angie” is a fun dance/exercise class that will get you moving. This class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance music. It will give you a good workout. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to join the fun competition. Exercise equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

        Wednesday, May 11 – Starting at 9:30 a.m. the Center becomes active with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women’s pool. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep up with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta, and other card games are played.

         Thursday, May 12 – The Panel Discussion begins at 10:00 a.m. You are invited to come join  in the discussions. Zumba movers meet up at 10:30 a.m. again for some fast zooming to some jazzy tunes. They can work up quite a sweat by the end of the class. Starting around 1:00 p.m. canasta and bridge players start dealing out their cards. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night musicians start tuning up at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.

         Friday, May 13 – Friday morning activities begin at 9:30 a.m. with exercise class, pool playing for women, and a painting class. You can bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the class. Line dancers start their routines at 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class. Afternoon card games begin around 12:30 p.m. except for duplicate bridge, which begins at 12:15 p.m.  Also, a puzzle is always out on the table waiting for a piece to be found.


         Last weeks reported winners for social bridge were: Lynn Fent, 1st, and Connie Mennem, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners were:  Al Perry and Lionel Raff 1st. and Treca Baer and Norma Burk, 2nd. Winning partners for the second day of duplicate bridge playing were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 2nd. The pool tournament champion for last week was Frank Berry.
