Busy Week at the Senior Center

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has a busy week planned. On Monday, August 11 at 10:30 a.m., Lois Jackson, a certified massage therapist will give foot and hand massages. Wednesday, August 13 at 1:00 p.m. Paige Peterson, an insurance agent, can check you Medicare medications and see if you could be saving some money. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be played. All seniors 50 and over are welcome to participate. You should check out what is going on at your Senior Center. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up an August calendar of events when you stop by. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Music night on Thursdays is a good evening outing to check out.

Monday, Aug. 11 – It is time to get off of the couch and get some exercise. The Center offers a free exercise class that takes place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. This is a good workout that utilizes stretchy bands, bouncing balls, and hand weights, while sitting or standing by a chair. Women 8-ball players also get exercise moving around the pool tables practicing their shooting skills. Bring your pool stick or use one from the Center and join the fun. A painting/crafting class also meets. It is a good social time to get together and help each other with artistic ideas. The massage therapist will be giving hand and foot massages starting at 10:30 a.m. Also, at 10:30 a.m. a group of line dancers practice some boot scoot’in moves. Check it out and get a powerful workout while having a blast! Afternoon games begin around 1:00 pm. Bridge and canasta are popular card games played along with pool/snooker and puzzle solving.

Tuesday, Aug. 12 – Did you know the Center has a bowling alley? It is open every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Wii bowling, that is. This is a popular game played on a game system where each player is in control of his own game by holding the hand controller and trying to make strikes just like at a real bowling alley. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. All seniors are invited to come join the fun. Bingo players also meet up on Tuesday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

Wednesday, Aug. 13 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women pool playing begins at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. the line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swingin’ country tunes. Then, in the afternoon games of canasta are played. At 1:00 p.m. you can have your medications checked for savings and a coed pool tournament will be held, also. An afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a drama, titled, “Heaven is for Real.”

Thursday, Aug. 14 – Wii bowlers are at it again starting at 9:30 a.m. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, social bridge, or pool playing. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. During the evening, starting at 6:00 p.m., musicians tune their instruments to make good toe-tappin country music. Come enjoy the music!

Friday, Aug. 15 – Friday mornings are active with exercise class, women’s 8-ball, and a painting/crafting class, all beginning at 9:30 a.m. And at 10:30 a.m. line dancing class members move to the music. After lunch, the cards will be brought out for games of canasta, and pool balls for rounds of pool/snooker.

Game champions announced for last week were: social bridge winners; Barbara Geiser, 1st and Penny Sizemore, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st and Murna Raff and Sandy Boepple, 2nd place. Winner of the pool tournament last week was N/A.
