Be Cool at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center


The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a cool place to come to enjoy cool activities. A second Wii bowling tournament will be held Thursday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. Sign up now! Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a May calendar of events.


Gwen Morrow was the grand champion in the Wii Bowling tournament recently held at the City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center.

Monday, May 16 – The women stay cool while shooting pool at 9:30 a.m. At the same time, the painting class also is having a good time getting creative with their choice of oil, acrylic, or water color paints. An exercise room is also available for seniors. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. A ping pong table or the Wii game system is also ready for use. The afternoon fun begins at 1:00 p.m. with bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday, May 17 – Every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 9:30 a.m. you can participate in a free exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit. This is a 45-minute exercise workout where chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. Wii play or Wii Fit is available for a fun time after the exercise class. How about a game of ping pong? Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

Wednesday, May 18 – Time for women’s pool again after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Ping-pong or Wii interactive games are also available. Activities for the afternoon begin at 1:00 p. m. These include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, Mexican Train dominoes, and puzzle solving. The Academy Best Movie Award winning movie, “The King’s Speech”, will be shown at 2pm.

Thursday, May 19 – Come get toned up with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m.. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time playing games on the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. You can join in afternoon games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, May 20 – The women’s pool group and the painting class meet again at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon games include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.

Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Norma Burk, 1st, and Betty Kersten, 2nd. Winners of social bridge were: Lynn Fent, 1st, and Ina Abels, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Lionel Raff and Seham Elsherif, 1st; and Murna Raff and Jerry Koelsch, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for last week were Don Lorett and Lula Mae Davis. A Wii bowling tournament was held last week and the winners were: Gwen Morrow, 1st; and Mary Berry, 2nd.
