Monthly Movie this week at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will show the monthly movie this Wednesday, September 2 at 2:00 p.m. The movie showing this month is, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”, starring Maggie Smith and Judi Dench. The sequel and most recent to this one will be shown next month. The Center is open for participants, 50 years old and older. Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evening, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

        The Walk in the Park event for senior walkers is ongoing in Couch Park. Seniors can sign up and log in each time at the Center. Walk the trail ten times and earn a t-shirt and better health.

        Monday, Aug. 31 – Join the free 45-minute Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, or test your pool skills against the women pool players, or get creative with the painting group all starting Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The exercise class incorporates a good stretching routine using stretchy rubber bands, and rubber or sponge balls. After the exercise class at 10:30 a.m. you can step in time to country tunes while line dancing. In the afternoon, games of bridge and canasta are played.

        Tuesday, Sept. 1 – “Zumba with Angie” is a fast paced exercise class that takes place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. You can get a good hour long workout dancing to some high tempo music. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

        Wednesday, Sept. 2 – Exercise class takes place again starting at 9:30 a.m.  These exercises  are done in a combination of sitting and standing, and a chair is always there for support. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time. These activities start at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played, along with pool and snooker. Also, at 2:00 p.m. the free monthly movie, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”, will be shown. So get your popcorn and enjoy a funny adventure movie about senior citizens who all meet up at a hotel in India and form lasting friendships.

         Thursday, Sept. 3 – Move to some jazzy tunes and work up a good sweat in the Zumba class at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon games start at 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice, or try out your pool shooting skills. Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, Sept. 4 – Get out of the house and join the fun activities at the Senior Center. Try out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, or the painting class all starting at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot around the floor to some lively tunes. Afternoon games of canasta and duplicate bridge are played. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition!


         Last weeks reported winners for social bridge; Beverly Dale was first and Lynn Fent was second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff who came in first; and Penny Sizemore and Lucy Robinson were second. Winners for the second day of duplicate bridge were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st and Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 2nd
