The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
holds a coed pool tournament on different days of each week. This week it will
be held on Thursday, August 27 at 1:00 p.m. Come join the fun! The Center is
open for participants, 50 years old and older. Hours for participation are Monday
through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday
evening, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015
E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information
and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
The Walk in the Park event for senior
walkers is ongoing in Couch Park. Seniors can sign up and log in each time at
the Center. Walk the trail ten times and earn a t-shirt and better health.
Monday, Aug. 24 – You can get in shape by
joining the free 45-minute Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, or test your pool
skills against the women pool players, or get creative with the painting group
all starting Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The exercise class incorporates a
good stretching routine using stretchy rubber bands, and rubber or sponge
balls. After the exercise class at 10:30 a.m. you can step in time to country
tunes while line dancing. In the afternoon, games of bridge and canasta are
played.
Tuesday, Aug. 25 – “Zumba with Angie” is a
fast paced exercise class that takes place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and
Thursday mornings. You can get a good hour long workout dancing to some high
tempo music. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle
solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and
a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at
2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone
wins a prize!
Wednesday, Aug 26 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercises
are done in a combination of sitting and standing, and a chair is always there
for support. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool
time. These activities start at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the
exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country
tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played,
along with pool and snooker.
Thursday, Aug. 27 – Move to some jazzy tunes
and work up a good sweat in the Zumba class at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon games start
at 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice, or try out your pool shooting
skills. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick
and enjoy the fun competition! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is
always good toe tapping music to enjoy!
Friday,
Aug. 28 – Some activities to get you out of the heat and keep you busy are, Sit
‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and painting class all starting at 9:30
a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot around the
floor to some lively tunes. Afternoon games of canasta and duplicate bridge are
played. Pool and snooker tables are open for use, also.
Last weeks reported winners for social
bridge; Beverly Dale was first and Bena Harper was second. Duplicate bridge winning
partners were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff who came in first; and Sandy Boepple
and Jerry Koelsch were second. Winners for the second day of duplicate bridge
were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st and Laurene Opdyke and Terry
Miller, 2nd. The pool tournament champions for the past week were a
tie between Vic Berryman and Wayne Vinson.
