The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will celebrate participant’s August birthdays on Friday, August 14 at 12:00
noon with a pot-luck luncheon. You can bring a food dish to share or pay
$3/person. The entrée this month will be hamburgers cooked out on the grill.
Join in the friendly conversations and good food! The Center is open for
participants, 50 years old and older. Hours for participation are Monday through
Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday evening, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. is
time for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th
Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick
up a calendar of events.
The Walk in the Park event for senior
walkers is ongoing in Couch Park. Seniors can sign up and log in each time at
the Center. Walk the trail ten times and earn a t-shirt and better health.
Monday, Aug. 10 – The Center activities for Monday
morning gets under way at 9:30 a.m. with a Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, a
round of women’s 8-ball pool, and a painting/crafting class. The 45-minute
exercise class incorporates a good stretching routine using stretchy rubber
bands, and rubber or sponge balls. The women pool players have a good
competition while playing several rounds of 8-ball. Artists exchange their
ideas and show off their creativity on canvases during their class. After the
exercise class at 10:30 a.m. you can step in time to country tunes while line
dancing. In the afternoon, games of bridge and canasta are played.
Tuesday, Aug. 11 – If you are looking for a fast
paced exercise workout, come to the Center and try out the “Zumba with Angie” class.
It takes place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. You can get a good hour long workout dancing
to some high tempo music. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge,
and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two
exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon,
too. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick
and enjoy the fun competition! Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a
prize!
Wednesday, Aug. 12 –Try the Sit ‘n Be Fit
exercises that are done in a combination of sitting and standing, while a chair
is always there for support. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball
during women’s pool time, all starting at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after
the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country
tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played,
along with pool and snooker.
Thursday, Aug. 13 – Work up a good sweat
moving to the jazzy tunes in the Zumba class at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon games
start at 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice, or try out your pool
shooting skills. Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe
tapping music to enjoy!
Friday,
Aug. 14 – While preparations are being made for the 12:00 birthday pot-luck
luncheon, activities are going on such as; Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class,
women’s pool, and painting class. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers arrive ready
to boot scoot around the floor to some lively tunes. Afternoon games of canasta
and duplicate bridge are played. Pool and snooker tables are open for use,
also.
Last weeks reported winners for social
bridge; Barbara Geiser was first and Lynn Fent was second. Duplicate bridge winning
partners were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff who came in first; and Sandy Boepple
and Jerry Koelsch were second.
