The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
is a great place to enjoy fun activities and get you out of the house. The
Center is open for participants, 50 years old and older. Hours for
participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday
evening, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. is time for music night. The facility is closed
on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080
for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
The Walk in the Park event for senior
walkers is ongoing in Couch Park. Seniors can sign up and log in each time at
the Center. Walk the trail ten times and earn a t-shirt and better health.
Monday, Aug. 17 – Activities to join in on
Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m. are, Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, a round of women’s
8-ball pool, and a painting/crafting class. The 45-minute exercise class
incorporates a good stretching routine using stretchy rubber bands, and rubber
or sponge balls. The women pool players have a good competition while playing
several rounds of 8-ball. Artists exchange their ideas and show off their creativity
on canvases during their class. After the exercise class at 10:30 a.m. you can
step in time to country tunes while line dancing. In the afternoon, games of
bridge and canasta are played.
Tuesday, Aug. 18 – “Zumba with Angie” is a
fast paced exercise class that takes place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and
Thursday mornings. You can get a good hour long workout dancing to some high
tempo music. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle
solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and
a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at
2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone
wins a prize!
Wednesday, Aug. 19 – It is time to exercise
again starting at 9:30 a.m. The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercises are done in a
combination of sitting and standing, and a chair is always there for support. Or
bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time. Then at 10:30
a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels to
some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other
card games are played, along with pool and snooker. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool
tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition!
Thursday, Aug. 20 – Move to some jazzy tunes
and work up a good sweat in the Zumba class at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon games start
at 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice, or try out your pool shooting
skills. Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping
music to enjoy!
Friday,
Aug. 21 – Get out of the heat and enjoy your Senior Center. Some activities to
keep you busy are, Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and painting
class all starting at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers arrive ready to
boot scoot around the floor to some lively tunes. Afternoon games of canasta
and duplicate bridge are played. Pool and snooker tables are open for use,
also.
Last weeks reported winners for social
bridge; Nancye Hoback was first and Barbara Geiser was second. Duplicate bridge
winning partners were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff who came in first; and Meg
Kletke and Adrienne Hyle were second. Winners for the second day of duplicate
bridge were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st and Jerry Koelsch and
Laurie Scholbaum, 2nd. The previous week duplicate bridge winners:
Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st and Betty Lowrey and Camille Johnston,
2nd. The pool tournament
champions for the past weeks were Larry Leonard and Jack Ventris.
