April Birthday Luncheon to be Held at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate April birthdays with a pot-luck luncheon on Friday, April 12 at 12:00 noon. Come celebrate by bringing a food dish to share or pay $3/person. Also, time is about to run out for free income tax help. Trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers will be at the Center to provide the service through April 15. Their hours are Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. No appointments are necessary; it is a first come first serve basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up an April calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join. A Thursday afternoon social bridge group is trying to start back up, so if you are interested in playing give the Center a call, at 747-8080, and leave your name and phone number

        Monday, April 8 – Monday mornings are full of women pool players and artists, starting at 9:30 a.m. The women have a great time challenging each others shots and the painting class members enjoy checking out each others art skills. Tax help is also scheduled, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00. There is also exercise equipment available that includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games such as: bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, April 9 – It is Spring and time to get in shape. Check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center. They meet at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. These exercises are done while sitting and also some are done while standing by your chair. Hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls are all utilized during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. Also, a ping pong table is available for use. Income tax assistance continues during the morning. In the afternoon, there is a choice of games that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, April 10 – Pool balls are scattered around the pool tables again as the women practice their shots at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment is available, too. Tax preparers work on taxes 9:30 a.m. to 12:00. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The dramatic movie, “Life of Pi” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, April 11 –The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group meet up again at 9:30 a.m. This is a good time to meet new people and get limbered up at the same time. After class, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. Also, a group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. Income tax help continues from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. At 1:00 p.m. afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving, are played. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. A lot of laughs are always shared during this time. Don’t miss out on the good times. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!

         Friday, April 12 – Women’s pool time and creative painting begins at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or Wii player. The birthday pot-luck luncheon will take place at 12:00 noon. After lunch check out the afternoon games of cards, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, pool and snooker.

          Last weeks bridge winners were: Norma Burk, 1st; and Louie Geiser, 2nd.  The duplicate bridge winning partners were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st ; and Murna Raff, Carolyn Schwabe, Jane Anderson, and Lew Taylor all tied for 2nd.  The Texas Hold’em group met and the winners for the week were: Chestine Crane and Paul Hirsch.
