Nice Weather Brings People Out to the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center’s attendance has increased since Spring has sprung. Participants are getting out more and taking advantage of the many activities offered at the Senior Center. If you have not yet checked out your Senior Center it is a good time to stop by and see what it is all about. Many free activities are offered for everyone age 50 and over. Check out the various choices of free activities such as: exercise class, painting and crafting class, line dancing, Zumba exercise, bridge, canasta, bingo, guitar lessons, movie time, pool playing for men and women including coed pool tournaments, and a music night. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.         Monday, April 27 – Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Morning activities consist of a Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, 8-ball pool for women, and a painting/crafting class. The Sit n’ Be Fit exercise class is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. This class utilizes stretching bands, bouncing balls and sponge balls as part of the stretching and limbering up routine. Check it out! Women’s pool playing is a good socialization time and competitive fun! The painting/crafting class members test their creative side with their art work. Bring your supplies and give your skills a test. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get some more exercise by joining the line dancing class and do some boot scootin’ to country music. Afternoon activities include: canasta, bridge, puzzle solving, pool, and snooker.

        Tuesday, April 28 –Wii play begins at 9:30 a.m. The game that is the most popular on this gaming system, is bowling. If you like to bowl you should enjoy this game. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a really good workout in the free Zumba class. This class is done to some high tempo music and is bound to get your heart rate up. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

         Wednesday, April 29 – Time to exercise again. Join the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. The afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. This week’s movie is an animated film titled, “Penguins of Madagascar”.

         Thursday, April 30 – Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. you can try out the Wii bowling game, or take a free guitar lesson. Then another class that will really get you moving is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition! At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, May 1 – Exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting/crafting class all begin at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. country music can be heard playing as the line dancers move their feet in time to the music. After lunch, afternoon games include; canasta and duplicate bridge.


         Last weeks reported winners were: for social bridge, Sally Simmons, first and Lynn Fent, was second; and in duplicate bridge; partners, Al Perry and Lionel Raff, were first and Sandy Boepple and Jerry Koelsch, came in second. The second day of duplicate bridge winners included: John and Sandy Boepple, first; and Betty Lowrey and Camille Johnston, second.  The previous week winners in duplicate bridge were: Penny Sizemore and Seham El Sherif, first; and Judy Million and Gene Morse, second. A pool tournament was held and the champion was Wayne Vinson.
