Christmas In July Happening at the Stillwater Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate participant’s July birthdays with a “Christmas in July”, themed luncheon on Friday, July 10 at 12:00 noon. Santa may even make an appearance. Turkey and dressing will be the main entrée. Attendees are asked to bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person. Water aerobics classes are still being offered at the Stillwater Municipal pool for seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting promptly at 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The charge is $2 per session and is paid at the pool each time you come. Classes will run until July 30. Many activities are offered at the Senior Center, which is open for participants, 50 years old and older, Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

        The Walk in the Park event for senior walkers is still ongoing in Couch Park. Seniors can sign up and log in each time at the Center. Walk the trail ten times and earn a t-shirt and better health.

        Monday, July 6 – If it is too hot outside for you to get some exercise come try the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class that takes place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. This exercise class incorporates a good stretching routine using stretchy rubber bands, and rubber or sponge balls. A women’s pool group have plenty of fun and laughs while playing several rounds of 8-ball. A painting/crafting class also gets together. Artists exchange their ideas and show off their creativity on canvases. Also, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. you can come step in time to country tunes while line dancing. In the afternoon, games of bridge and canasta are played along with pool or snooker.

        Tuesday, July 7 – You should check out the fast paced free Zumba with Angie class that starts at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday and Thursday mornings. This class is done to some high tempo music and is bound to get your heart rate up. Water aerobics takes place at the City pool at 12:30 p.m. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition! Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

        Wednesday, July 8 – Time to exercise again with the Sit ‘n Be Fit class at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.  Some exercises are done sitting and some standing, but a chair is always there for support. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m.  Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played.

         Thursday, July 9 – Zumba with Angie class begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games start at 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, July 10 – Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the activities begin such as; Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool time, and a painting/crafting class. Then at 10:30 a.m. the line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot around the floor to some lively tunes. Fun and good eating will begin at 12:00 noon with the special, “Christmas in July” birthday luncheon. After lunch, afternoon games of canasta, duplicate bridge, pool and snooker are played.

         Last weeks reported winners were: for social bridge; Connie Mennem was first and Sally Simmons was second.  Duplicate bridge winning partners were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, came in first; and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller were second. Winners of the second day of duplicate bridge were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first; and Penny Sizemore and Lucy Robinson, second.
