Seasonal Celebration Luncheon Held at Stillwater Senior Activity Center



        City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a seasonal luncheon to celebrate all the Center’s participants summer birthdays. The luncheon will be a cookout, with hamburgers and side dishes to go along with them and will take place on Friday, August 12 at 12:00 noon. The price for the luncheon is $2/per person and is paid at the door. Come and enjoy meeting and being with friends. The Center offers a friendly place to experience many activities for persons that are 50 and over. You can exercise, line dance, Zumba, paint, enjoy music, play pool, cards, and bingo. Hours for participation at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends.         Monday, Aug. 8 – Get your workout in the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are put out for everyone and a variety of exercises are done while sitting. Hand weights, stretchy bands and bouncing balls are incorporated into the routine. Some exercises are also done while standing, but a chair is always there for support if needed. A group of women also come in at that time to play some friendly rounds of 8-ball pool. They have a good time socializing. At 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class, a line dancing class takes place. They do some good boot scooting to country tunes. In the afternoon, bridge players arrive around 12:30 a.m. along with canasta card players and pool/snooker players.
        Tuesday, Aug. 9 – For a special workout, come try the free “Zumba with Angie”, class. This is a free class offered at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Zumba is a fast paced exercise/dance class done mostly to Latin American dance music. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to join the fun competition. Exercise equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out, for all the puzzlers.
        Wednesday, Aug. 10 – Starting at 9:30 a.m. you can exercise again with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. Also, women pool players arrive ready to play some more 8-ball pool games. Later, at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep time with the swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta, and other card games are played.
         Thursday, Aug. 11 – Work up a sweat in the Zumba class starting at 10:30 a.m. Remember to wear good sturdy shoes. Canasta and bridge players start dealing out their cards at 1:00 p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.
         Friday, Aug. 12 – Exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting class is held at 9:30 a.m. Bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the class. Line dancing class and duplicate bridge will not be held due to the preparation for the luncheon. Also, afternoon card games will begin around 2:00 p.m. A puzzle is always out on the table waiting for a piece to be found.
         Last weeks reported winners for social bridge were:  Norma Shamblin, 1st ; and Beverly Dale, 2nd.  Duplicate bridge winners were:  Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; Carl Provence and Sandy Boepple, 2nd.  For the second day of duplicate bridge, winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Carl Provence and Gay Lynn Bullock, 2nd.
