The New Year is Underway!


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center participants are ready to start a new year by enjoying many activities such as; card games, exercise class, art class, pool and snooker, bingo, line dancing, Wii games, exercise equipment, movies, and a music night. Also, on Friday, January 10 at 12:00 noon the January birthday pot-luck luncheon will be held. You can bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person. Come enjoy the delicious meal and friendly fellowshipping.  Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a January calendar of events when you stop by. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, please remember with the weather changes coming, if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed the Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

        Monday, Jan. 6 – Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings women pool players come to the Center to practice their pool shooting skills and take part in some fun competition starting at 9:30 a.m.  Also, an artist’s group arrives about the same time. They bring in their own supplies and help each other with ideas and questions they might have about their artwork. Other crafters are welcome to bring their projects and join the group, also. The Center has an exercise room with exercise bikes and a weight set for senior use. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, Jan. 7 – Start your New Year’s resolution of getting in shape now, by checking out the free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit at 9:30 a.m. This class is offered every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The exercises are low impact, and good for strength and flexibility. Some are done while sitting and others are done by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout!  In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. 

         Wednesday, Jan. 8 – The women pool players will be at it again after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. They have a good time, so bring your pool stick or use one from the Center and join the fun! Also, Wii games are played on Wednesday morning at the same opening time. Then, in the afternoon games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker are played along with an afternoon movie at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a basketball true event film entitled:  “Coach Carter”.

         Thursday, Jan. 9 – The free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. will give you a good toning workout of your muscles. If you would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get to moving and can work up a sweat while having fun. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Don’t miss out on the fun!

         Friday, Jan. 10 – The Center opens at 9:30 a.m. and the women pool players are waiting at the door ready to practice their pool shots. The painting group is also there with their paints, brushes and canvases, eager to get creative and exchange ideas. Exercise equipment is also available for use. The birthday pot-luck luncheon will begin at 12:00 noon. Games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker begin in the afternoon.  

          Champions for various games held last week were: social bridge winners; Cloyann Fent, Anna Cooper, and Wally Reynolds all tied for 1st place. Duplicate bridge partners did not meet this week. Texas Hold’em champion for the week was: Darrell Davis.  Also a men’s 9-ball pool tournament was held and the winner was Dwight Wilkins.
