Senior Center closed for MLK Jr. Day


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. day. Regular activities resume on Tuesday. You can enjoy many activities during the week, such as: card games, exercise class, art class, pool and snooker, bingo, line dancing, Wii games, exercise equipment, movies, and a music night. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a January calendar of events when you stop by. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, please remember with the weather changes coming, if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed the Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

        Monday, Jan. 20 – Center will be closed.

        Tuesday, Jan. 21 – Check out the free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit at 9:30 a.m. This class is offered every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The exercises are low impact, and good for strength and flexibility. Some are done while sitting and others are done by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout!  In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. 

         Wednesday, Jan. 22 – Pool balls start falling at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players take aim for some friendly competitive games. Also, Wii games are played on Wednesday morning at the same opening time. Then, in the afternoon games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker are played along with an afternoon movie, at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a high action film entitled:  “Man of Steel”. 

         Thursday, Jan. 23 – A free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class is offered at 9:30 a.m. This class will give you a good toning workout for your muscles. If you would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get to moving and can work up a sweat while having fun. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Don’t miss out on the fun!

         Friday, Jan. 24 – The women pool players are back again for some more fun beginning at 9:30 a.m. Also, a painting group comes in during that same time. They get creative with their paints and canvases. If you would like to join them, bring your art supplies and artistic ideas. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker begin in the afternoon. 

          Winners for last week games were: for social bridge: Norma Burk, 1st, and Penny Sizemore, 2nd; duplicate bridge; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st, and Terry Miller and Camille Johnston, 2nd. A men’s pool tournament was held and the champion was Wayne Vinson. The Texas Hold’em winner for the week was Darrell Davis.
