Its Warm at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center participants will make you feel welcome while you enjoy many activities such as; card games, exercise class, art class, pool and snooker, bingo, line dancing, Wii games, exercise equipment, movies, and a music night. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a January calendar of events when you stop by. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, please remember with the weather changes coming, if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed the Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

        Monday, Jan. 13 – Pool balls are falling every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings as the senior women pool players take aim at the cue ball starting at 9:30 a.m.  An artist’s group also arrives about the same time ready to get creative with their paints. They bring in their own supplies and help each other with ideas and questions they might have about their artwork. Other crafters are welcome to bring their projects and join the group, also. The Center has an exercise room with exercise bikes and a weight set for senior use. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, Jan. 14 – Time to get started on your New Year’s resolution of getting in shape.  Check out the free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit at 9:30 a.m. This class is offered every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The exercises are low impact, and good for strength and flexibility. Some are done while sitting and others are done by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout!  In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. 

         Wednesday, Jan. 15 – Bring your pool stick or use one from the Center and join the women pool players for some friendly competitive games. The fun starts at 9:30 a.m.  Also, Wii games are played on Wednesday morning at the same opening time. Then, in the afternoon games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker are played along with an afternoon movie, at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a drama based on a true event entitled:  “Parkland”.  Join the pool players in a coed pool tournament at 1:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Jan. 16 – A free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class is offered at 9:30 a.m. This class will give you a good toning workout for your muscles. If you would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get to moving and can work up a sweat while having fun. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Don’t miss out on the fun!

         Friday, Jan. 17 – As soon as the doors open at 9:30 a.m., women pool players and the painting group will arrive, anxious to get started at the pool tables and at their canvases. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker begin in the afternoon.  

          Due to the past holidays, there are no winners to report. The bridge groups and Texas Hold’em players did not meet.
