The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
offers many activities for seniors 50 and over. During the week, you can
participate in: card games, exercise class, art class, pool and snooker, bingo,
line dancing, Wii games, exercise equipment, movies, and a music night. Stop by
1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more
information. Make sure to pick up a calendar of events when you stop by. Hours
are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to
8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, please
remember with the weather changes coming, if the Stillwater Public Schools are
closed the Senior Activity Center will also be closed. Come investigate the
fun!
Monday, Jan. 27 – The women pool players start
the morning off at 9:30 a.m. They have a great time and share a lot of laughs
during several rounds of 8-ball. Also, a group of artists get together during
the morning and enjoy sharing their creative ideas with each other. Exercise
equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are
available for use, too. The afternoon brings out bridge and canasta players,
and pool shooters.
Tuesday, Jan. 28 – A free exercise class is
offered every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The class is called,
Sit ‘n Be Fit and the exercises are low impact, and good for strength and flexibility.
Some are done while sitting and others are done by standing next to your chair
utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute
workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This
will get you a really good workout! In
the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker
and jig-saw puzzle solving.
Wednesday, Jan. 29 – The women get out their pool
sticks again after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Also, Wii games are played on
Wednesday morning at the same opening time. Then, in the afternoon games of
canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker are played along with an afternoon
movie, at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is an animated film entitled: “Monsters University”.
Thursday, Jan. 30 – It is time to exercise
again. Come join the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, offered at 9:30 a.m. The
class will provide a good stretching and toning for your body. If you would
like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that
meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get to moving and can work up a sweat while
having fun. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or
snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner.
Don’t miss out on the fun!
Friday, Jan. 31 – Pool balls will be
dropping in to the pockets starting at 9:30 a.m. as women’s pool time gets
under way. The painters will be at it again, also. Bring your painting supplies
and get creative. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Games of
canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker begin in the afternoon. A men’s pool
tournament will held at 1:00 p.m. Senior men, come join the competitive fun!
Winners for last week games were: for
social bridge: Cindy Smith, 1st, and Norma Burk, 2nd;
duplicate bridge; Murna Raff and Seham El Sherif, 1st, and Terry
Miller and Camille Johnston, 2nd. The Texas Hold’em champions for
the week were; Darrell Davis and Chestine
Crane.
