February Birthday Luncheon at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be hosting its monthly birthday luncheon, on Friday, February 8 at 12:00p.m. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join. Please take note; it’s that time again, starting Monday February 4th at 9:30 a.m., the trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers return to the Center to figure income taxes, free of charge. Their services will run Monday, February 4 and run through April 15th. Their times will be Monday through Thursday mornings, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary; it is a first come first serve basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. Reminder on winter closings; if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed for inclement weather then the Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

        Monday, February 4 – After the doors open at 9:30 a.m. women pool players gather around the tables for some fun competitive games of 8-ball. Also, a group of artists come in with their art supplies and canvases to spend some time together expressing their creativity. There is also exercise equipment available that includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The AARP tax preparers start today from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. At 12:30 p.m. The afternoon crowd starts coming in about the same time to play various games such as: bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, February 5 – Take the opportunity to join a free exercise class held every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9:30 to about 10:15 a.m. The Sit ‘n Be Fit class exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls are all utilized during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. Also, a ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, there is a choice of games that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, February 6 – Pool balls start falling again for the women pool players beginning at 9:30 a.m. They have a lively time with lots of laughs. Come join the fun! A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment is available, too. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The dramatic movie, “Beasts of the Southern Wild” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, February 7 – Exercisers get started stretching again in the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After class, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. Also, a group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. At 1:00 p.m. afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving, are played. A men’s pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. Bring your pool stick or use one provided by the Center and join the fun! At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. A lot of laughs are always shared during this time. Don’t miss out on the good times. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and tuned up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!

         Friday, February 8 – The women get out their pool sticks for some more friendly competition and fellowshipping. The painting group also returns at 9:30 a.m. The painters bring their own supplies and share their time and ideas with other artists. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or Wii player. At noon a potluck birthday luncheon will be held to celebrate all of the birthdays in February. Bring a dish to pass or $3 and join in the celebration. Check out the afternoon games of cards, pool, snooker, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

          Last weeks bridge winners were: Dollie McClary, 1st; and Barbara Geiser, 2nd.  Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Betty Abernante and Seham El. Sherif, 1st,  Lew Taylor and Ina lee Abels, and Teresa Tanner and Laurie Schlobohn, tied for 2nd. The Texas Hold’em group met and the winners for the week were: Lula Mae Davis and Chestine Crane.
